If I wanted to join the West Point Parachute Team, would it be advantageous for me to pursue a skydiving certification and get skydiving experience? What can I do to ensure I have the best chance of getting on the team?

From what I've read, the biggest factors in trying-out for the team (and most other clubs) are your physical fitness and personality.

They'll try to smoke you, but it's out of love.
If you're spending a chunk of your time with a small group of young men and women, it'll be important that everyone's vibes jive.

The Team is a very very selective group and if they take about a half a dozen a year into the group. The Firsties are the only ones that jump. So you have to work your way up the ladder. Getting a skydiving cert is of no benefit. During your first summer, and again if you get selected for Airborne . They take about 250 to 300 to Benning out of your class of 1250. The thing with clubs, chose a club, sport or anything else that offers the most interesting or the most athos. You want to take advantage of this secret but not too much that it detracts from your academics. Academics accounts for 60% of you overall grade.

Unless it has changed from when I was a cadet, I believe all classes get to jump. Firsties are the only ones who do the stadium jumps due to having to have a certain number of jumps and certain types to meet the requirements to jump into a stadium.
