Please explain exactly what goes on at parents weekend. If the plebe lives close to the academy will they have liberty to come home or do they have to attend all scheduled events? Thanks in advance, this forum is a a big help!
 
Yes, you get your first overnight liberty. I believe you are free to leave right after the the Acceptance Ceremony, correct me if I'm wrong if its a later time.
 
Class of 2013 was dismissed shortly after the conclusion of the football game ~ 6 p.m. and were told that liberty would conclude on Sunday evening. Our DS ended up having to return early on Sunday to meet with a recruit who was doing an overnight visit.

Check out the parent page on the website. There should be information (or in the near future) posted there as to what the schedule will be for Parent Weekend. Nice thing about living close by~you won't need to book a hotel. :thumb: We went early on Friday to catch a class w/ our PC and went to Band Beat. We didn't do any of the meals in Delano but rather brought picnic stuff with us for Friday and Saturday and had some of his friends, whose parents were unable to come to, join us. Had to make a run to the grocery store but heard a whole lot more by just sitting back and listening to them talk. It was a great weekend.
 
Acceptance ceremony is on Saturday? Football game is on Friday or Saturday? I looked on the calendar and I thought they were to return on Monday by 6 p.m. so I booked for us to stay there til Tuesday. Do they not have Monday off since it is Labor Day? I just thought we would have from Saturday til Monday or hopefully Friday til Monday.
Does someone have the correct answers?

Parents Weekend

You are correct...they get off until Monday at 1800 this year because of the Holiday, subject to the Regimental Commander (assuming no restrictions to your Plebe's company)

There was a typo in the doc handed out at the Parent Mtg in Ackerman at Indoc...Capt Fell mentioned that in his talk..

Mine is in the ever-anonymous First Company as well...not a single pic...

Plebes absolutely must attend all of the scheduled events. But you will get plenty of time with them on Friday. Don't miss Beat Retreat! Expect to finally get to leave on Saturday later than you think it should be. :wink:

We did do dinner Friday at Delano and DD was amazed that they actually were capable of putting on a nice meal. :yllol:
 
We made our dinner reservations for Saturday night at 8:30 PM at a nice steakhouse about 30 away from the academy so that we didn't have to worry about traffic and missing our reservations. DS had to wear his whites so he didn't order his favorite ribs. :shake:

Make plans to stay on Monday but be flexible. The ride has been amazing!
 
Wow! What a gift to have Labor Day as part of Acceptance Wkedn! Our son had to go to NYC w/ band for an important parade in the a.m. on Sunday. He had 6 hours of liberty and had to be back by 6 pm for the Plebe Sunday evening Testing. Enjoy the time and please let them eat and sleep!:shake:
 
I will talk to a friend of mine that is a drill instructor for first company and see why there aren't any pictures of them up yet.
 
I posted some Acceptance Weekend thoughts/rememberances under the Phone Calls thread if any 2014s want to read the persepctive of that weekend as an emotional roller coaster... though still a highlight for a 2013 parent.
