3 years ago when I came for parent weekend I found a list of hotels that gave discounts to the parents visiting the Academy. I am unable to find that list this year. Can anyone send me a link? Thanks.

We stayed at the Hyatt for graduation last month. Very nice. Hampton was next door. It was about 20 minutes away with decent traffic. Use 700 North Avenue instead of actual address for the GPS.

Received the discount but had to ask. When I had to change the reservation they did honor the discount but they said they weren't aware of the discount.

Doesn't the Andrew Hotel still offer a discount? They are located right in Great Neck opposite the train station and bus stop (the bus takes you to KP in apprx 1 hour)

The Inn at Great Neck may also offer a discounted price but they are pricey to start.

We stayed at the Hyatt in Garden City for graduation weekend as well. Nice property, relatively easy drive to KP. (I say "relatively" because it is Long Island and the traffic is awful at almost all hours.)

Over the last four years we stayed at different hotels in different parts of Long Island. They were all great except for one thing, distance to KP. At times the traffic was a nightmare. For graduation this year we stayed at the Inn at Great Neck. It was the best money ever spent!! No matter what time of the day it was we were always five minutes from KP.

I highly recommend the Inn at Great Neck.

In 2012 for our DS graduation we stayed at the Inn at Great Neck and though pricey for the same reasons listed above we found it worth it. Other times I've stayed at numerous places in the area and when I travel for work I've been both a Hilton and Marriott guy for points accumulation so my three other recommendations for staying around KP/Western LI are: Hyatt Place - Garden City; Marriott - Uniondale and Residence Inn - Plainview. All are usually 20-25 minutes from campus but as noted traffic can be an issue any time, especially if there's construction or accidents on the North Shore of Long Island. I guess we should be glad KP isn't on the South Shore cause traffic is usually worse there since on the North Shore you have some/multiple options going east - west that you don't have on the Sout Shore.

All that said nothing beats the convienience of either the Inn at Great Neck or The Andrew for location proximity to KP. However the rooms at The ANdrew are tiny and staying there for more than a night or two, especially with more than just a spouse would drive/has driven me crazy. For that reason, for me, the price delta between the Inn at Great Neck vs. The Andrew is really worth it.

If I was worried about budget though and had more than just my spouse to accomodate I'd be looking at the Residence Inn - Plainview. If I could afford to splurge though I'd do a larger room or multiple rooms at the Inn at Great Neck if that's in your budget. The staff at the Inn is really helpful and the Hotel is one of those Small Luxary Hotels so they do have some nice ammenities.

Hyatt Place is nice, reasonable and relatively new and the Marriott Uniondale is ditto but a little more expensive than the Hyatt (basically they are across the Meadowbrook Parkway from each other). The Marriott has a Pool and more ammenities/restaurants, etc than the Hyatt Place going for it. However, in the Hyatt Place's favor you can walk a block to a good diner (much cheaper than the hotel restaurants in the Marriott, etc), grab a bite and hang out a little to get space if you are going to be there for more than a couple of nights. To me that's something to consider if you are going to have younger teenage siblings with you - for both the siblings and the parents sake... just sayin'

Hyatt Place is just off Old Country Road (a misnomer if ever there was one:shake:). There are lots of stores and restaurants nearby (a big help when we reached the Hyatt and DH realized he had forgotten his dress shoes to go with his dinner jacket for the ball:rolleyes:).

Aside from hotels, a number of restaurants in the area will offer specials for Parents Weekend. We went to a restaurant in Port Washington - if I look, I can probably find the name. For graduation weekend, we went to Morton's, right on Northern Boulevard in Great Neck. They had two specials: one for graduation, and one for Father's Day. Still pricey, but it was a pretty special weekend, after all.:thumb:

Are restaurants and thoughts re: the whole PW Drill/Schedule something 2017 parents interested in being added to this thread?

There's is a new Homewood Suites in Carle Place that opened in March. Nice for families.

More Hotels

There is a 3 year old Hampton Inn in Rockville Centre. About 30 mins to the school with no traffic, and 12 mins from beautiful Long Beach if you are staying longer, and have down time.
