In a public forum such as this, it's often necessary to sort through the info and try to determine what is accurate and what is opinion. I wanted to make sure any new parents to the forum knew about the site maintained by Deb Dalton, who works for the Directorate of Communications at West Point. First, you have to set up a facebook account. Next, search "West Point Parents." It is the group with the Athena helmet icon. Deb will post the information that you need for Rday, Aday, PPW, etc. She will answer your questions in a timely manner. Parents also have started discussions about topics such as hotels and restaurants. During beast, Deb will post pictures of the cadets and you can enjoy your search for "Where's Waldo?" This is a phenomenal resource, and I encourage you to take a look at it.
I love SA forums; this site was invaluable to me during the whole application process...however, some questions and details need to come straight from WP, and Deb's facebook page is that source. :thumb:

Deb Dalton is, indeed, terrific! We've had the occassion to ask questions specific to our son's needs. She responded to our questions within minutes! Also, she has sent broadcast messages to the parents of the class of 2014 with current information. For example, the "broadcast" message dated February 3 with an approximate timeline of upcoming mailings that we are to expect. If I recall, our son received a welcome email from her; and as a parent, I had to reply with our email addresses so we could be added to her parents' distribution list.

    Links to Information

Here are the easiest ways to reach Deb and all the resources offered by West Point through her:

    Debra R. Dalton
    Parent Communications Liaison
West Point Directorate of Public Affairs and Communications
    (845) 938-5650
    deb.dalton@usma.edu
    www.westpoint.edu/Dcomm/wppc.asp
    http://twitter.com/WestPointParent
    www.facebook.com/WestPointParents

She is the ONLY source of OFFICIAL information specifically for parents of USMA cadets/candidates -- and you will not meet a nicer, more accessible person! :thumb:

I'd just like to add my appreciation for Deb Dalton, too. It is the official word for most logistical questions.

Between this site, the West Point Parents Facebook site, and personal email correspondence with Deb, almost everything has been answered quickly.

    Other suggestions:
    - make sure you are on the Prospective-net email list for automatic emails with useful questions and answers. As we get closer to R-Day, they frequency of mailings will increase greatly. See link:
    http://www.west-point.org/parent/prospective-net/
    - don't forget to keep your MALO and admissions coordinator in the loop for some of your questions. Most times they will have the best and official advice or answer
    - direct your potential and/or appointed cadet to the "USMA Class of 2014" Facebook group. This is for them only; no parents:smile:.

"make sure you are on the Prospective-net email list for automatic emails with useful questions and answers. As we get closer to R-Day, they frequency of mailings will increase greatly."

While in years past I would have agreed with this, now that West Point has an official in place to make sure parents are given up-to-date, accurate information I would not suggest signing up. Any offcial information on that list-serve comes through Deb Dalton and her office anyway. The problem is that, as well meaning as folks on there are, the information provided is sometimes dated and leads to unnecessary anxiety and confusion. As Grannie stated above Deb Dalton is now providing a USMA service for the 2014 parents with information being pushed out on an email list at regular intervals. Keep in mind that although the organization that runs the other lists is called West-Point.org they are not employed by, or associated with USMA except as interested individuals, much like folks on this site. In addition to the email pushes by Deb's office, there is a monitored discussion board on the Parents facebook page on which questions can be asked and answered quickly and accurately by other parents as well as Deb, making the former service redundant. If you have a question you do not want to post publicly Deb is available by email or phone --not just for logistical questions, but literally ANYTHING you might have a question or concern about involving your cadet/candidate and West Point.
