Does anybody know the dates of Parent's Weekend? When should we plan to arrive? Are there events scheduled? Will we get to spend time with our son/daughter off base? Is there a limit to tickets to get on base (i.e., can we bring a family member?)

Parents Weekend is always Labor Day weekend at USAFA. This year it will be Thursday September 1 - Monday September 5, 2011. Officially it starts Friday, but most parents arrive Thursday (or earlier), because events on Friday start very early.

There is no limit on how many guests that can be brought to the events of the weekend. Your automobile pass will be good for everyone in the vehicle when you go on base.

Your cadet should be free to leave base after the squadron open houses on Friday evening, but will need to be back for the football game on Saturday. After the game, they will be free to leave with you for the rest of the weekend, and will need to be back on Monday evening. One exception: Some cadets will be required to sit CQ duty during the weekend (CQ presence must be maintained 'round the clock). Usually the cadets whose parents are not able to make it for PW will volunteer to take the duty, but if your cadet is scheduled and cannot find a replacement, then that's the way it is.

Here is the official page for Parents Weekend. it has a lot of really good information on the events, and it will be updated throughout the year:

Yes there is. It is basically the same as the academy weekend. This last year the preppies did not get to spend Friday night with the parents. They had to be back at 10 or 11PM. They also need to go to the Saturday football game. Go to the prep school website, go to parent info, look for the parent's weekend link. Even if it is the 2010 schedule you can get a feel of what is happening. Also, make reservations soon if you know you are going.

Book Now

Book your hotel for parents weekend now. Many hotels (e.g. Embassy Suites, etc. were filled months ago.) Keep in mind that your cadet can spend Friday night with you at your hotel. Many families stay in the Colorado Springs area Saturday and Sunday as well, although many get out of town and stay in Denver, Summit County, Boulder or other places......rooms are much easier to find out of town. ( For example, we got two rooms at a nice hotel in Westminster for the same price of one room in Colorado Springs....via priceline.) Some families rent a condo in or around Colorado Springs for the entire stay. You may consider spending Monday night in Boulder as well and returning home on Tuesday. Your cadet does not need to be back until 7:00pm (?) and saying good bye is hard enough without adding a rush back to DEN to catch a flight (and hotel rooms on that Monday can be found for much less if you shop around.) Book a rental car now as long as you can cancel it later. The reason is that last year rental cars were super expensive if you booked early, however, prices dropped dramatically (i.e. $200 or more for the 5-6 days you'll need it) in the 2 weeks preceding Parents Weekend on sites like hotwire.com.
