It's time for passport renewal and since last passport was issued prior to 16th birthday, DS-82 (renew by mail) does not apply and DS-11 (apply in person) seems to be required. The Post Office in New London (06320) has passport service but the hours would be a challenge for a cadet. Anyone know of an alternative?

Have the cadet file a special request to go during the day (when possible).

I got a new passport a year or two ago. I was able to fill out the paper work online and print it out (single sided), which made the trip to the post office much faster.

He should also have photocopies of all supporting documents when he goes.
Some Post Offices have passport photo services, others do not.
Additionally you can make appointments at some which get you to the head of the line.

Some also only do appointments so check on that as well. I called one of our post offices around here the other day for passport info and they said they did not have any appointments available until April. They only do passports two days a week and only at certain times at that location so it is really best to call just to double check.
