so i am hoping that people on this site can help me to try and reach my life's goal..to get to the academy. This is as of right now, and i am on summer break for high school about to become a sophomore.

-My current over all gpa for my freshman year was 3.43

-I have run cross country for four years

-I have run track for four years

-As a freshman, I was one of two varsity freshman on the track team

-I have played the trumpet for four years, and am going to stick to it for the rest of high school

-I will take three years of spanish

-I will take four AP courses (AP world history, AP US history, AP calculus, AP statistics)

-I have raced and built Soap Box Derby cars for eight years, and have built four of them

-I have been in beta club for three years

-I am hoping to join my churches youth group once i have means of transportation.

Any constructive criticism and comments would be appreciated!

Looks good to me! You seem to be doing all the right things that typically successful candidates do.

Playing that trumpet is a PLUS. I'm convinced that the Academy ensures that x-number of each incoming class has experience with a brass instrument to keep the Drum & Bugle Corps alive and vibrant. They assemble the D&B rather quickly and even have a Plebe-only corps during Plebe Summer. That's not easy to do unless you have the experience base to start out with.

I recommend you educate yourself in the application process. Be organized. Make a list of things to do and when they have to be accomplished.

Go to your senators'/congressman's website and look over the type of things they will be expecting from you when you apply for a nomination.

Select your junior year Math & English teacher carefully because THEY are the ones who the academy will require an online evaluation on you. The academy does not allow you to pick and choose WHICH teacher who evaluates you unless there is some kind of extenuating circumstance that precludes it.

Stay physically fit.

Don't get into any legal trouble.

Do well on your SAT/ACT exams.

The mere fact that you're on this forum as a sophomore tells me that you're already ahead of the game.

I'll leave you with two tidbits of advice.

1. When you begin the application process your junior year, try to get everything you need from your school BEFORE school lets out. Trying to get some of these things done during the summer can be a big pain.

2. When applying for a nomination, never lose sight of the fact that your senator's/congressman's "Academy Coordinator" is much more than a secretary. That individual is probably going to have some major input into the nominations. Treat them respectfully. Make their job easy by submitting things in a timely and correct manner. I have a theory: I think that in many instances, the "Academy Coordinator" is making the nomination choices and the senator/congressman just signs his/her name to it.

I agree with what Memphis said. Im in almost the same situation as you ohio, except tthat Im not as good at sports(I play Football and Lacrosse). But I live in a really competitive Virginia district, So Im doin a whole bunch of volunteer work and joining sea cadets. That would probably be a good idea for you too.
