Does the ROTC CC pay for one time travel from home of record to college/universtiy for 4yr ROTC scholarship recipients. I saw a portion of the DA Form 597-3 which makes note of this but I am note sure if that is applicable to freshmen or just for LDAC. Thank you

Yes, they do reimburse the Contracted Scholarship Cadet. They will pay so much for mile if you drive. They will pay for the plane ticket if that is how the Cadet got to school. They will pay for a hotel if one had to travel far and it was a stop over. They will not pay for a hotel near the school the night prior. In otherwords, my son is only 4 1/2 hours away from his college. We drove up the night before so we could spend the entire next day moving him in and get home before midnight so we stayed in a hotel. That of course was on our dime.

I want to say that the reimbursement was direct deposited into his account a couple of months after he contracted.

d. *Travel reimbursement. *
(1) *The cadets listed below are authorized one time travel entitlements from their home of record to the school for the purpose of enlisting in the USAR Control Group (ROTC) and to obtain the academic degree shown in the contract. *(See Joint Federal Travel Regulation (JFTR), Volume I, paragraph U7150-F) *Invitational travel orders must be submitted to Headquarters, Cadet Command, Resource Management and Budget in a timely manner to ensure cadet can be reimbursed for this authorized travel. *Applicable DD 1351-2 will be submitted to DFAS-Rome after paper orders are authenticated. *Cadets authorized travel reimbursement are as follows:
(a) *Four-year scholarship cadets attending school for the first time.
(b) *Green to Gold scholarship cadets.
(c) *Military Junior College (MJC) scholarship recipients attending the MJC for the first time.
(2) *Only cadets who travel to the school to enter into a scholarship contract may receive travel reimbursement. *Cadets who apply for scholarships after enrolling in school cannot generally receive travel reimbursement for travel to such schools, because travel to the school was not for the purpose of entering into a scholarship contract.
(3) *All scholarship cadets are entitled to return travel to their home of record on discharge from USAR Control Group (ROTC) if they are not ordered immediately to active duty, except those cadets who remain at the school after such discharge to continue their education or to serve as a Gold Bar Recruiter (GBR) (JFTR, Volume I, paragraph U7150-E). *Scholarship cadets who are on a leave of absence status, who are pending disenrollment or who have been disenrolled are not entitled to travel reimbursement.
e. *Reimbursement. *When scholarship awards are made after the beginning of the school year, the PMS will ensure the CCIMS Student Management Module is updated, ensure the school is reimbursed for tuition due, ensure subsistence allowance is started and to reimburse the cadet for travel and academic expenses authorized under the scholarship contract.

AZMOMM,

Despite the regulation and JFTR that authorizes payment DD has had difficulty collecting for travel. From August to December the HRA employee and Cadre at the cross enrolled/extension school kept saying not authorized. Finally got the ROO from the Host school engaged. Paperwork submitted in December but no deposit of funds to date.

Interestingly, the HRA wanted a copy of the original notice of scholarship. I laughed when I saw the scholarship notice included the authorization for one time travel pay from home to school.

Thanks for the info all. Seems like a nice perk if we get it. Im used to the long delays with getting reimbursed you would think they would just issue the tickets directly. Fordham was very informative when I asked about room paid for. I was told that it is covered no process on our part other than passing apft. The fin aid said that they were used to rotc pay delays and would work with us.
