Today DS2 has a missing PE teacher eval. Don't remember seeing this before, and don't remember DS1 needing one for c/o 2019 or c/o 2018 apps. Is this new, or have I not noticed it before? DS2 did not pass the CFA at SLE and has to re-take, could that be the reason? DS2 has not taken PE since freshman year! Not sure his PE teacher is still teaching at our school.

Ditto on what mom says. Definitely new but haven't heard any thing about a PHYS ED SOE. Here's the statement from the portal:
The following SOEs are required (for prior applicants as well):
ENGLISH, MATH, PHYSICS/CHEMISTRY, PHYS ED

Just this afternoon. Wasn't there this morning. DS2's PE teacher from freshman year is gone. I'm going to have him email his RC.

DS also received the same message. He attended SLE, took the CFA, and was determined "No Risk".

I got the same portal today.
According to some quick research, I almost maxed out the CFA, too.

???

I go to boarding school where we don't have PE class we have sports mandatory all three trimesters. I have never taken PE before. I am going to email my admissions counselor. I will post back when I find something out.

Last night, my DS told me that a request for a PE teacher evaluation showed up in his portal as well. He had good results on the CFA at SLE so perhaps this is a new part of their process.

My son found that yesterday as well. He homeschools and I can't write his evaluation. Thankfully he took an online class about personal fitness that qualifies as 'physical education' two years ago so he emailed that instructor to see if she would do the evaluation.

DS now has the same request in his portal (thanks for the heads-up, mom). In his case, he had previously entered the contact information for his PE teacher (his school's strength and conditioning coach) because he had administered the CFA for him and uploaded the results.

It certainly sounds like this may be ubiquitous and now suddenly required for all candidates, regardless of their CFA status or history. More insight would certainly be appreciated -- just curious.

The portal was down for maintenance yesterday. I suspect they added this requirement, but intended it to apply to future classes or was just a test. I'll be surprised if they added to the application requirements mid-season and announced it by it only showing up in your portal - no email, no Facebook, no mention at recent admissions briefings, nothing. I know it's the Army, but...

If I hadn't seen it on here I never would have looked. DS thought his application was complete weeks ago. Hope others are looking if its for real for class of 2020

Looks like it's official, not a mistake. Just saw this posted on our daughter's portal...

New SOE Requirement-Details Coming
(20 Nov 2015) - CL2020 candidates will notice a new addition to the portal checklist-Physical Education SOE. This requirement pertains to all candidates currently seeking qualification for admission to CL2020. Detailed guidance will be provided via email this weekend. We are asking candidates to please hold questions until they have received
and read that guidance.

Well, that will be a real challenge for homeschooled students unless the PE teacher can be a sports coach. But sports coaches may not be accostumed to grading the way a school PE teacher is, so this may be an interesting situation to watch. I wonder what prompted them to add this requirement.

Just got the email today too. Wondered if it only was sent to students with certain CFA scores but son knows he maxed two of the events. Never heard about this requirement before. Thought he was almost done with these hoops- last two interviews next week. Now something else lol.

In case anyone hasn't seen the guidance with it-

We are writing to explain who must serve as the school official for the newly added Physical Education (PE) School Official Evaluation (SOE) you have likely noticed in you candidate portal. The SOE form on the portal states this form must be completed by your current PE teacher. The question for some then becomes, “What do I do if I am not currently taking PE?” The remainder of this message will address such concerns in case they apply to you.

If you are not currently enrolled in a PE course or have graduated high school, you must have your most recent PE teacher listed on your high school transcript complete the SOE. Home schooled candidates or those who have NEVER taken PE in high school should contact their Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) administrator to complete the PE SOE.

Under exigent circumstances, where both the appropriate official and the CFA administrator are unavailable, USMA will accept an SOE from a martial arts instructor, dance teacher, or similar instructor who a reasonable person would judge to be in a position to adequately assess your athleticism. Please note that a high school athletics coach may NOT submit the PE SOE UNLESS they are also your PE teacher.

Also, please note that for the overwhelming majority of candidates the correct PE official is very clear. To avoid confusion and to preclude questions, these guidelines have been designed to be prescriptive and by and large, NOT open to interpretation or preference. If you have a situation that is legitimately not covered in these guidelines, you should contact your regional admissions team as listed in your portal. Before contacting them however, please ensure you have read and understood this guidance.

Sincerely,

Your West Point Admissions Team

Go Army!!

My DD got an email today with the same info, however, her portal isn't even open yet. Must be a blanket email.

Does anyone know what the PE SOE is, exactly? Is it some sort of assessment or a teacher evaluation? At any rate, we submitted it to his PE teacher and should know when the teacher reads it.
