Approximately how long should I expect to wait for a waiver decision? It's been four weeks and I wonder if we should give it another month or not before I call and inquire. College and future plans are dependent upon this decision..Anyone know?

He was DQ'd for having hydronephrosis. It's an instant disqualifier, but followed by a remedial which asked for an ultrasound on the kidneys. We did that and had all records sent to DODMERB and his status is now "pending waiver review submission". Our son had corrective surgery at age 4 for a megaureter. He's had no problems since, but the ultrasound showed a "slight hydronephrosis" which is a kidney that's larger than the other I believe. He doesn't have kidney stones or any urological problems at all. Anyone know anything about this cause for disqualification? It would be terrible for him to be rejected from all military service based on this.

Should have read the "sticky" first

I actually just read the "sticky" on Waiver Timeframes at the top of this page and it had some very good information. Does anyone know if it's current?

My son also has that status for an AROTC waiver. Do they hold off looking at AROTC waivers because of the April 15 deadline for West Point?

Also waiting

My son got DQ'd for psoriasis on Feb 14. College ROTC said they automatically put in a waiver request. Emailed DoDMERB. They gave me an email for Cadet Command. No reply. So we are proceeding as if he is not getting into AROTC. Only silver lining is he found out now before he invested any time or effort. Hope things work out for you and yours

My son's waiver was just granted for AROTC (at least the DoDMERB page says so). Took almost 5 months.

Bo28 - I know it has been some time now - and you may not even be active on this board anymore, but I was curious if you son was granted the waiver? Our son is in the EXACT same situation: corrective surgery at age 3 for obstruction, now shows some slight hydronephrosis.

BO28 -- Our "Waiver Granted" timeline was about 6 weeks. DS was notified of being an AROTC 4yr scholarship winner off of the second AROTC board at the end of Jan 2015, and the medical waiver came through from Army Cadet Command mid-March 2015. DS was never so happy. (DoDMERB had been completed back in Summer 2014, with remedial testing done in the Fall 2014 for SA applications for classes entering Fall 2015.) BTW, the Command Surgeon is busy with more than just AROTC scholarship winners.

To be clear, my DS's medical condition was not a kidney related.

Here is a link to a letter from the USACC Command Surgeon to the AROTC Detachments calling out the non-waiverable medical conditions. This letter expired back in April 2015 and I haven't seen an update posted, but this should give you some indication for what was in place last year: https://www.jmu.edu/rotc/prospective-cadets/Non-waiverable medical conditions.pdf

Sorry Stealth -- misread the thread -- meant to address my comment to hammerin 4U56
