Son noticed his portal updated to Pending Waiver Review (USNA, USMA, USAFA) for his shoulder DQ.

What does that mean? He is wondering if that means they are considering a waiver or if it is a status hold to see if someone is going to consider it.

We are traveling back from his CVW at USNA. It was awesome!

Question answered. Both of us received an email this morning from USAFA. He checked the portal and he was notified of the DQ but waiver requested. Let the super long roller coaster begin. His sunny side, glass always full response was "At least it wasn't a non rebuttal DQ." :)

From what you wrote, it seems like it was a non-rebuttal DQ. If not, the DoDMERB would have requested a remedial examination and paperwork and then would have reviewed that and qualified him. Then, a waiver would not be necessary. A waiver request goes through for any type of disqualification automatically. e.g. if I had HIV/AIDS and applied to USAFA, USNA, and USMA I would be medically disqualified, but nonetheless a waiver request would be processed by the appropriate medical officers at those academies. The chances of them actually granting that waiver, I'd say between 0% and 0.000001%.

That is not accurate. Academies request waivers for candidates in whom they are interested, soba request is not automatic and is a good thing. My understanding, however, is that it has the potential to be a lengthy process. Success is not 100%, but is far greater than the previous author asserts

His code is waiverable. There are DQ non rebuttal codes and DQ - waiver request but it may or may not happen. The DQ happened 8/16 and USNA, USMA and USAFA all have requested a waiver. It will be a long process but we were aware of that.

He just was cleared of a remedial for use of inhaler at 8 hence the DQ we all knew was coming since he had surgery for a torn labrum at SLE in May.

I would hesitate - MMA 19kid - to give such negative, inaccurate advice to someone. We know what his letter says and he had spoken with his RC about his condition. He stated a waiver would be possible but he must rehab etc. Nothing is guaranteed but he isn't giving up. It's been a hard 3 months for my family. He only thing standing between him and the big Qualified is an injury that occurred at USMA. The irony is not lost on anyone!

Plans B, C and D are in the works. Has a full academic ride to a large university with partial living expenses already as the merit aid is automatic. He has the drive for an academy and will continue to pursue it.

Well said, and good luck!

Thanks for the well wishes! He is ready for the ride. I get motion sick. Ha!

It's been rough since the middle of July. He gave up playing his senior year of football for a chance at the academies. He still is a member of the football team. Attends practice daily and coaches the defensive ends. He was an All State end for his sophomore and his junior years so he was looking forward to the season. It's been tough for both of us but he made the right decision.

So proud of him regardless of where this ends for him. Great stats and leadership. It's this persnickety shoulder injury. I am a big believer in there is always a purpose for the things you experience in life. There is a reason for all of his struggle these past couple months. PT going well.

Everyone think positive! :)
