Permit to Report Packet

Help with

Hi everyone. I just picked up my DD spectacle form from her optometrist and I believe he didn't read the instructions correctly. The measurements for the glasses frame size (lens and bridge) numbers seems off. So if anyone has those numbers I can compare them with DD. I realize the number will not be the same but they should be close. Thanks

Report Time

Whoever said no one was later than 9:15AM. Wrong on that. DS is 9:30AM with a last name of "B".
Go figure! We'll be early regardless.

Anyone?

Don't tell me DD is the only one thats going to need glasses.

Medical coverage

Still wading through Permit to Report packet and came across the medical coverage information. Child is covered under my work's health plan now, and would continue to be if went to regular college, but I find the information somewhat confusing as to whether I can still have C covered under my work medical plan after I-Day. In speaking with a benefits advisor, she said that as long as C is not classified as Active Duty, not employed full-time and I still pay more than 50% of support, C is still covered. Not sure that we will satisfy that last criteria after Plebe year. Has anyone else gotten that far and have any feedback?

Son's packet didn't include the "Midshipman Pay and NFCU application", so he was hoping to get that online.

You can get the NFCU stuff at their website: https://www.navyfcu.org/ You have to go there anyway to look at the different kinds of checking accounts.

I didn't see anything in DD's package that actually covered "Midshipman Pay" explicitly.

Everyones medical coverage is different. My opinion is keep it simple. Your child is going to college. Yes the Naval Academy is not your normal college but it's not considered active duty either. If your insurance plan accomodates children in college then keep them on the plan. Yes, they are covered under Navy Medical but in that slim chance your future mid is injured or becomes sick and leaves the academy prior to graduation your personal medical coverage kicks in. If you have dropped coverage, the potential is there for a financial mess.

Ortho Waiver

One of the forms listed on the check list is an orthodontic waiver. It wasn't in my son's packet. Would it have been there only if he had work done in the past? We're wondering if he needs to have something to verify that he never had braces. The Permit to Report website still isn't up. Any ideas?

The orthodontic waiver is only for people who currently have something glued to their teeth (hence, the need for a wavier).

If you had braces, but they are off now, you do not need a wavier.

If he never had braces, he definitely does not need this form :)

Thanks, J !
The checklist listed a document about midshipman pay and NFCU application, so I thought we were missing something. Doing the NFCU app. online will be even easier! The Permit to Report link on CIS is still not working for us.

Son went by the doc to get his TB test yesterday, and is returning tomorrow to have the results read and get the other immunizations he needs (for him it's the Tdap, the adult polio booster, and the first of the HPV series - ugh!). His doctor recommended the HPV, even though it's optional for USNA. Son wanted to get as many shots as he could out of the way before I-day. :thumb:

My son no longer has braces but he has an upper permanent retainer that is "glued" to the inside of his mouth - Does this necessitate a waiver?

HeyClaire,

I am pretty sure waviers are only for active orthodontic treatement, but if you are worried, I would contact the Academy - the staff othodontist's phone number is on pg 6 section 13d of the PTR instruction booklet.

Good Luck.

Congrats to everyone now receiving their permit to report packets! Seems a bit more real now, doesn’t it? A few notes on items contained in this thread: You cannot, and should not, force any candidate to eat the morning of I-Day. Would you have much of an appetite if you were facing what they are facing? Are you, as parents, going to be eating much yourselves that morning, knowing what you face later in the day? Most likely not…..nervous stomachs all around. Do not push the issue with your candidate.
On the medical insurance item, if it will not cost you a great deal extra, keep your mid on your insurance. Should anything happen, you do not want to have any breaks in medical coverage. Remember that at least a few mids will be coming home over the summer, injured, minds changed, military not really for them, etc. This is simply fact. And then there is the prospect of separation during AcYr for academics, medical, many reasons. You think, “That won’t be my kid”, but what if it is? Keep them on your insurance. I’ve seen too much over the years to offer any other advice on this topic.
I believe permit times are generated based upon the last digit of SSN, or some wacky system like that. Or it could be totally random. Anyway, what does it matter? It is when it is! If you start wondering about the how and why of the way the navy does things now, you are in for an extremely long four years + career! And yes, if you show up early, you will be whisked right on in. Be prepared for this!
I remember when the company list got out on Facebook last year….it wasn’t up for long and I can’t imagine what happened to the individual(s) responsible!

older and wiser

Never mind. After a trip to lenses crafters the tec informed me that the numbers needed were on the inside of DD glasses. 3 mile and 30 minutes later.

0700 report time. Glad we made hotel reservations in advance so we can drive up the night before. Does anyone know if there is a rhyme or reason to how report times are generated? Is it by company?

mumsyto3: Hello! Are you from NJ as well? 0630 report time for DD. Please PM me. Thanks!

GO NAVY! :tomcat:

Finally went through permit to report package. (It's only been here four days, but it seemed much longer as it was definitely the "elephant in the room" while DS has been incredibly busy this week!) I was actually relieved as we went through the packet. It is a lot of paperwork, but most of it depends on no one but us. I always get stressed out when a third party is involved. "Will they come through, and how many times will we have to call them to make sure they come through?"

Report time of 7:30 for us. I hope I will get to meet some of you on I Day!!

link problems

"a supplement to the mailed package, the entire Permit to Report package is also available on the Permit To Report website in the event replacement forms are needed."
Has anyone been able to access link?

I heard it was based off SSN too right before I came in, but there isn't really anything to prove it as far as I have seen. It doesn't have to do with distance, either; I'm a MD resident and I had a super early report time, but some of my friends from the West Coast had the same time.
Just get there early and ready to go.
