Permit to Report

There is NOTHING they can do about it!! I will NOT tell my son what you said[/B],

I am sorry you felt the information is stressful. Everyone has a different comfort level with information I guess. In our house we find knowledge to be helpful. I also think when you know the pitfalls of a later report time there IS IN FACT something you can do about it. I think had my son known last year that when he reported at 9:30 he wouldn't eat lunch 2 1/2 hours later he would have been better prepared to eat a large breakfast. We also would have brought him even more to eat at the end of the day.

Additionally, if you know that others are feeling behind the 8-ball and trying to catch up, and you aren't the only one who feels this way that knowledge can also be helpful in relieving stress.

You can share whatever you think it best with your kid. Like I posted earlier "Dont stress about it though..."In the end it will be fine." ...Iday is the beginning, not the end."

I have been through I-day as a new Plebe, been a detailer at I-day (twice) and also worked I-day as a civilian for many years. I can tell you it hasn't changed a bit.

For those that have a later report time, its not a big deal. You will get processed through just fine. The whole day is a blur whether you report at 0630 or 0900. Females will tend to move quicker, because there is less back up for uniform change over and inspection. Yes, you will try all that stuff on they give you and ensure it fits (your white works won't, but they will be tailored later). Those that come from NAPS and priors get their stuff the day before, so yes they are unpacked and ready to go. They do this on purpose... 1) it helps to ensure that Iday runs smooth and 2) Allows NAPS and Directs to help those reporting on Iday. Regardless of report time you will not have time to do what you need to do. That is the point. Your entire 6 weeks of Plebe Summer is designed to be this way! Even if all your stuff is unpacked and looks good, guess what? They will reassign your room in a few days, they will conduct a room inspection and 'gently' re-arrange your gear for you or you will play a fun game called tossed salad. If you have an early report time and manage to unpack and someone reports later... its your job to help out your squadmate. The priority is to get you processed through, watch the video and get the speech on the oath (or whatever it is they do now... this is not rushed and something they talk greatly about... hope they still do it), write a post card home with your new mailing address and first phone call time (I think they still do this). You will move quickly and be talked to very sternly. The real yelling, chopping, and "fun" will start once those doors shut after Iday.

Advice... get a good night sleep the 2nd and 3rd nights prior to Iday. You won't sleep or will wake up really early the night before. Drink a ton of water. And eat a big breakfast. Even those who get lunch on I-day, very few plebes eat. If you can't eat, bring some granola bars to the yard and eat one before you get in line. Bring some food for after the oath for your new Plebe and a few other Plebes who might not have family there. Also, if you know your room mate doesn't have family there, have your family take some photos of the new plebe and send them off to their families. I am sure it would be greatly appreciated. The alumni association has folks there with cell phones for those plebes, but photos of the change are appreciated.

Good luck to all. Remember, every graduate has gone through this process, so you can too. Enjoy the ride. You will experience every emotion that day. Its the start of an amazing journey.

Anybody get a PTR that's from California yet?

USMC_2018 and ND Candidate - My daughter's time is 0830 not 0730.

I know there are lots of you, but it is nice knowing you guys will be going through this together. Her name is Victoria Oakes if you are on any of the USNA social media groups - lord knows she is!

NavyHoops - I am so glad you are on this board! Thank you for all the great information you share with us.

^^^Great advice. DS had a 9:00 report time. Allowed us to sleep in, get breakfast and not rush. It was all good. Jimmy Johns and water was a great snack/meal for after the oath. (DS accidentally left his rates book--or whatever that little blue book is called--with us when he returned to his company to form up to go back into Bancroft. Wouldn't recommend that path--picture panicked mom running around trying to find Waldo and hand off the book surreptitiously.)

PTR arrived in California. DS has 6:30 report time. Snagged my Midshipmen Store passes before he knew what was going on. Have to be quick in the house!

PTR finally arrived today. DS has report time of 8:30. I hear that may not be the best, but we are close enough to drive in that morning, so that will probably work out ok. That way he can spend his last night in his own bed.

Have any fellow 2018ers gotten the Academic Background System link to work? It keeps telling me that it isn't open yet and to check back after April 1,2014

It was updated saying that it would open today, the 15th, but I still cannot access it.
