Socks, white cotton athletic (without stripes or trim and crew length) - 14

"Swoosh" logo OK or not?

Should skivvies, towels, socks, etc be labeled or do Candidates do that after reporting in?

Join the parents FB group

All these details are being discussed on the 2017 FB group - pls info you never even thought to ask.

No labels - they label them during indoc

No swoosh - Kohls has tech gear plain white on sale this weekend

You're right, but the 2017 Facebook isn't public, the beautiful thing about these forums is that they are and that this information will stick around.

Negative on the swooshes. Your kid will catch a lot of crap for it. Stick to the list in every possible way. Avoid being different at all costs.

The Facebook page and this Forum are both valuable. Many people do not have the time to post to all the Facebook pages, as a result this forum provides a different view.

Just a pile on remark but a keeper:
Never under estimate the value of a Tide To Go pen! Lol. That was a nugget from a discussion about academics that went off the rails awhile back much to the consternation of those worried about the upheavals going on at the time. A little levity can help. There is plenty-o-relief here.
I do not know if this years Logging In booklet recommends them or not but DS or dd will be very happy to have one or two ( one regular and one bleach pen ) as will their closest friends.

To beyond's point there are permanent discussions on these matters easily accessible here on the forum. Some people chat so much on Facebook  and post really cool photos of their MN doing all things KP , it makes it difficult to keep the gem posts current.
Reading through previous years advice from seasoned parents here on SAF was a tremendous help to me. Sure some of the fine points change year after year but the discussions put me out in front when it came time to have everything ready to go. One of my now good friends marveled at much I knew about what was going on. She now knows everything as a Parents Association Co-President but early on the SAF was my go to guide and I will be forever thankful and wish to help those just going through the process.

If run on sentances were a crime I would be a lifer. An Internet spelling and grammar tax would put me in the poor house.
Hey, eat a minute that is a good idea!

I ditto Lynpar on the Tide to Go pen. Saved my DS many a time and his friends were happy he had it. He took it with him when he had liberty too.

I too echo Lynpar. There were couple candidates at indoc last year that had colored socks. OH BOY!!. Do no try to out think the guidelines they issue to '17. They will all be ripped if they doing everything right, let alone do something wrong. We were advised to send more then the 14 pair of socks/underwear/tees. Glad we did, their washing machines eat more of that stuff, than your home machine eat socks!

The most inexpensive all white socks we found were at Old Navy. I think we looked in every store possible that summer before indoc. My daughter, our DS twin sister, even remarked she was tired of shopping.

We bought inexpensive stuff for indoc and then brought up a fresh set at Parent's Weekend. That goes ditto for towels. We didn't get the fluffy-rather the thinner quicker to dry worked best.

We went one step up on the socks so feet stay comfy with all the running and marching. We bought in bulk from Amazon.

Piling on but ditto to the idea of being ready to bring entirely new sets of underwear but also some more socks up with you for parent's weekend ... good luck incoming Class of 2017 and especially good luck to 2013 with this last furlong of the race - you're coming round the corner into the homestretch now guys!

Gel Inserts

On a different note, get a set of gel inserts (e.g. Dr. Scholl in drug store). Somebody gave my son that tip the night before indoc, we hit a Walgreens on the way to the hotel, and he said later it was great advice. Apparently those shoes/boots you get issued are not the last word in comfort and you spend so much time on your feet during indoc...

Black sweat socks. Its easier than double socking it and wearing black polyester socks with frams is a health hazard to your own feet and your roommate's olafactory sensors and an invitation for a code red.

I wouldn't waste time bringing anything that isn't on the list. I brought nothing with me beyond the clothes on my back except blue shorts, white tee shirts, white sweat socks and underwear. There isn't really anything else you need that you won't be issued.
