Phone Calls

My son is in 1 company. He has been in quarantine since Monday nite and finally got out today! He was able to call every day. He got back to 1 and had a new room assignment. He was able to meet some seniors who gave him some great advice on how to get through. I am sure he will share with all.

Glad to hear your son is better! Mine is in 1st company too...so far he's been healthy. He called this AM and said they moved him into a new dorm too. Can't wait to hear advice from Seniors! Should be good stuff

Has anyone heard if Band Company has the flu? We haven't heard from our son; it's 2:30 midwest time. We heard from him in the evening last time.
3-4 weeks ago I called, lets say "a person in authority" about skyping. Twice I was told skyping would be allowed. Now it sounds as if our young men and women won't be able to. Does anyone know either way? I like the fact that facebook is blocked. Skyping is certainly faster than instant messaging, which I hear is allowed. What have you heard out there in parent land parents?

No calls yet here - did the calls received today come from your PC's personal phone?

I understood they would have access to Skype. Have parents heard differently?

almost 5pm no call from DS in 4th Company. The wait continues.

Call

Still waiting for our call as well, our son is in 1st Company. Since Indoc is over and classes start on Wednesday, does anyone know what they'll be doing for the next two days?

Sunday phone calls

Our son is in 1st company and no call at our homefront. We are waiting very patiently. I will post as soon as call comes in. Keep the faith

There are 52 new pictures posted on the waterfront if you want to distract yourself from the wait. Are we sure they are going to call today?? I am beginning to doubt myself.

Don't they have Plebe Knowledge Tests Sunday nights at about 6? Maybe there won't be any calls????

Just a guess (maybe some alumni or current mid can clarify) but today they had waterfront competition, they then went to rooms, got ready for dinner or studied for PKT, went to dinner, PKT at 6pm (1800), so you might get the calls later today/tonight. They are also doing a multitude of cleaning, preparing for classes, maybe trying to recover from illness, catching up on things if they were sick, etc. etc. They are also doing alot of bonding with the guys they will spend the next 4 years with. So don't worry if the calls come late tonight, as has been said in other posts, enjoy the waterfront pics/video until they call! :thumb:

300-ish kids WILL be busy doing SOMEthing for:
They have:
Computers: to be issued, unpacked, software downloaded, set up, email to be checked(so stay tuned for emails from them.. yay, finally).
Books: to be issued, checked against schedules, stenciled(named), organized.
Rooms: to be moved into(from their Indoc room), to be organized, inspection ready(or thereabouts), and (oh yeah) roommates to meet.

300-ish kids WILL NOT be...
--lolling around the pool with nothing to do ;)
--trying to decide which mixer they will attend ;)
--going out on the town to have dinner ;)
--or, wasting time wondering how they will set up their refrigerator/microwave/toaster/stereo/TV/DVD/Xbox/or ClockRadio (clock, yes..Radio, no).

For the Math placement test...
You'll want them where they belong. Granted, if they are in whatever the accelerated College Math is (pre-calc, trig, alg 2--on steroids), they will definitely be doing summer school.
However, there will be some who take Calc1/Calc2 (or Phys/Chem) who don't address it properly... and will be enjoying that opportunity as well. Emphasize study.

Thanks. I knew I read the PKT were at 6 on Sundays but I can't find where it was that I saw it.

No call yet from my son, 4th Company. Last Sunday he called at 11:15 a.m.

Emphasize study.

The best advice for your PC.

The best advice for parents from now til parent weekend (and beyond):
LET THEM STUDY
Their time is very structured and I am not a fan of Skype, AIM or anything that puts pressure on my kid to communicate with me. His silver then gold star plebe year proved my theory. He also particpates in offshore sailing, so not a total nerd! 3rd class year they can let their hair down a little and have some fun once in a while (he has!) Still maintains the good grades because of good study habits.
I prefer email that they can respond to when time allows and good old-fashioned letter writing. I have a sea chest with 3 generations of Merchant Mariner letters to cherish forever!
As has been said before, this is just the start of a very long rollercoaster. Buckle up!

Dave's mom and Zonker you are right on. I'd add one more thing.
"Get thee to a tutor" or teacher immediately when classes and homework don't make sense.(Shakespeare would have loved that)
Since our son doesn't have a cell phone, I was counting on the freebie skype......Hmmmm wonder if skyping could be an alternative to a cell phone privilege. We heard the cell phone reception was "iffy", so decided to wait. Guess we'll have to buy another phone and support some company.....

My Call This AM

My call came this AM about 9:30 and I also posted a link to the pic of today's water front games....looks like that had lots of fun! By the way 1st Co.

So this one test decides if they are doing summer school or not? Talk about pressure!

Hopefully my PC is getting lots of studying done while in sick bay. Besides sleeping he says that's what he's doing plus shining his shoes, etc.
