Picking a Base

we got our DEAD LAST choice - Seymour Johnson AFB, NC (DS born there) - we thought we had been put in Mayberry (originally from San Diego) - we literally didn't know places like that existed! Hindsight... it was a great place! LOL

You do know that the Andy Griffith show was based off of Rocky Mount and Goldsboro (SJAFB town)?

Andy Griffith actually was the drama teacher at Goldsboro HS before he hit big and his picture still hangs in the school today.

The sad part is Goldsboro basically to this day is still that way. The only town I can think of that only got an IHOP about 2 yrs ago. Funny thing is many people, including rated officers actually retire there. Out of the 7 O5's that retired within a 6 week span of when Bullet retired, we were the only ones to leave! To many they thought we were nuts to move to an area like No VA. When they visit I laugh because we will pop into the Harris Teeter's and their eyes expand as if they entered Mecca. They land up making a 5 min pop into the store into an hr shopping spree!

I have to say even in hindsight, I don't miss SJAFB. I miss my friends, and visit them about 2X a yr., but it is like visiting family, happy to go there, much happier to leave! I do not miss Berkeley Blvd and their un-timed lights!

What airframe does your DH fly, the only one I can think of would be A-10s?

Profsparrow, a lot do homestead because of the airframe, but for some they planned it that way. We have 2 friends that in their AF career, they only moved 2x after going operationally. He would do his 4 yr tour, take a yr remote, come back and do 4 yrs, repeat! In the same time we had moved 7 times over 14 yrs. We never made it past a 32 month marker, with some being as short as 10 months.
