What're some good schools with a good NROTC program in the Midwest/East?

I'm just looking at my options for plan b schools, thanks

I have had a brother and a nephew who graduated from Miami University in Oxford OH and were commissioned in the Navy via the NROTC program. My brother retired about 10 years ago as a Commander, his son, my nephew, got his wings and is flying E-2s. Miami has had an excellent reputation for several decades, as a high value university. Best wishes. (BTW, it was one of my plan B selections many moons ago.)

Take a look at the NROTC web site. They have colleges listed by state. Then visit the college websites. There's no such thing as a good college. It all depends on you, what you want to major in etc. For example, UNC Chapel Hill is one of the top colleges in the country, but I wouldn't go there if I wanted to study engineering. Also, keep in mind you need to be accepted by the school. There is no point to picking the top 5 that offer your major if you don't meet their academic profile. Good luck in your research. This is hard work. Look to your parents, guidance counselor, teachers, and others for good input. Once you've narrowed it down some you might come back here with further questions. :thumb:

    LakeErie69,

Penn State, Embry Riddle are just two excellent schools in the east. If you would like additional info on either, let me know. My DS graduates from Penn State University Park, very strong ROTC programs.

I'll take this into consideration as I'm actually in Ohio. I know a lot of people who go there and it has a good rep academically.

SUNY maritime college has an excellent NROTC program, and a fantastic waterfront campus overlooking the East River and Long Island sound. It is diagonally across the East River from the USMMA. Their graduates frequently qualify for the Navy flight program and consistently qualify for the Navy nuclear program. One of their former graduates was an astronaut. I know for a fact that at least seven 2011 graduates are in the Navy's nuclear program.

    Best wishes

Marquette University in Milwaukee and Notre Dame both have very well respected NROTC units.
