A Cautionary Tale...
Our very best intentions sometimes have unexpected consequences.
Here's a story...
My older son was the head Training Officer (not sure what it was called
at another academy. He was especially kind to a young Basic Cadent who needed some extra encouragement to stay. She told her mom that "Cadet XXX was the nicest person she had ever met" and explained how he had helped her and gave other glowing details- including the fact that he was very handsome.
Mother was SO thankful for his kindness that she posted the ENTIRE conversation on a parents website in order let Cadet XXX's family know what a great guy he was-- and she used his real name. Now, being Cadet XXX's mother, it was nice to hear- especially the kind and handsome part- LOL.
HOWEVER.... other parents on the website who knew my son told their cadets about the post. Not only did HE get all sorts of teasing about it, but the girl did, too. She was basically "tortured" the rest of BCT because of something that her mom did, just trying to be nice. The poor girl was FURIOUS at her mother and the mother was furious at the other parents on the website.
The only one that wasn't upset was me because it's always nice to hear that someone thinks your kid is nice and handsome
!
So, you can see why real names (and too much information) are not a always a great idea.
Just saying...
