DH, DD and I will be attending a SA seminar/forum sponsored by Senator Flake and two local district congressmen tomorrow. There will also be representatives from each academy present to give a briefing and answer questions. My DH is encouraging my DD to present her resume and "rub elbows" with the senator. I am totally against the idea of bringing her resume to such a forum. It is very clear to me that Senator Flake requires the applicant's resume to be included in the nomination application. I feel it is too forward and pretentious to give it to him there. What do all you good people think?

I agree with you that bringing a resume is a bit much. I would suggest (and don't think it causes any harm) for your DD to introduce herself to the Senator and her Congressman, and perhaps strike up a conversation. The MOCs will want to press the flesh anyway, at least they did at the event I attended 5 years ago now. BTW, I didn't see any resumes passing hands there.

Nope- don't do it. The senator will likely not even see her resume. He may not even be there. He will have a committee that selects his nominees. I suggest introducing herself to the ALO tomorrow, and then contact him or her after the Academy Day. Presenting the resume at Academy Day isn't necessary. I am representing the USAFA at an "Academy Day" tomorrow. I want to put names with faces, and answer questions. I don't even want resumes tomorrow. That will come later.

DD went to that seminar a couple of years ago. The Senator will give a little speech and leave. He won't even be around to rub shoulders with.

Also, the way it works in AZ (and most places), the MOCs will have committees that review the congressional packets and do the interviews. This is to make sure there is no appearance of favoritism.

Good luck. We, too, are from AZ and went to this same event a couple of times (with each kid). I thought it was pretty well done. Feel free to PM if you have any questions about the AZ process. I'm happy to share our experiences.

All went well. 83Gradwife, you were right. MOCs came, gave a brief speech and left the scene. We did however, get to meet the AOL and talked with some very nice cadets. We met a few other DDs who will be going to the SS this June. All in all, it was a nice seminar with loads of information. The best part was getting to talk to the cadets who are at the academy. My DD is looking forward to SS with a new perspective and motivation. Thanks again.
