PLEASE RESPOND AS LOAs COME IN

Question: are FFRs required to notify their candidates if they are to receive an LOA or is that up to the FFR's discretion?

It is up to the FFR's discretion.

No, he isn't. He graduates from Penn State and did OCS. Does my commander have to be a grad?

No, your commander does not have to be a grad. However, if the commander is a grad they could be more inclined to help you out. Don't sweat it though; as long as your commander gives you a nomination you are fine.

Does anyone know if ALL of the LOAs were mailed out yesterday? Or are they mailing them out in increments starting with yesterday?

I'm having a meeting with my FFR schedule for this upcoming week. He called me because he wanted to do an interview and when I talked to him on the phone (I didn't bring it up) but he didn't mention anything about LOAs... I feel so out of the loop! :frown:

I think if they were all mailed out on september 1st then everyone that is getting them should have them by tuesday. I dont think USPS will ever take more than 5 business days to deliever anything inside of the country. But your liason officer probably knows more than me thats just a feeling I have.

Thats what I was thinking. I'm glad we're on the same page here! Waiting for that LoA...

I got an email from my RC this past week. Here's a part of it.

For those of you that thought that a 1 September deadline for file completion was unrealisitic especially if you could get an LOA with just 3 things - I may have bad news for you. There are over 300 LOA requests sitting for around 200 spots nationwide - some of you that may have otherwise been qualified will see the minimums (both in terms of points and materials submitted) knock you out of the running. Don't worry - you are still highly competitive for your district, but let this be a lesson on being proactive.

I'll give you another goal if you aren't already complete: 1 October. Its a good one because (as some of you will find out later this month when you get a letter) in October we will begin to close inactive files. In a competitive year - do not give me a reason to close your file (unless of course you are no longer interested in applying and then please give me a reason).

To quell any rumors out there - some on the Academy forums - the class is not already full. Yes, we have more high quality candidates than we will offer LOAs to at this time, but no, we don't have each one of you locked into a position and can't until after the file completion deadline. The majority of offers will be made in the months of January to March. If you come across these kind of rumors - please spread the truth and let us know.

Just found out I got one today.

The mail hasn't even arrived for me yet.... I hate the US Postal Service.

Then again, I'll also love the USPS when the mail comes...

Not accepted to SLS?

You were not accepted to SLS but you got an LOA?
Can someone explain how that might work?

Just got the mail... no letter yet.

One thing: I have my FFR interview on Wednesday. Would they wait for that to be sent in before an LOA could be sent out even though I already did a squad leader interview at SLS?

Wait has anyone actually received a physical 'letter' yet? Or has everything been word-of-mouth so far?

it doesnt look like there have been any letters yet...just "finding out"

I imagine, since the letters were mailed on a Thursday before a long weekend, they are slow to arrive. If West Point is anything like it was when I was a cadet, when the letters are mailed from main campus, they still have to go through a distribution system before entering the US Mail system. The conjecture about how long it takes a letter to get across the country is not taking this into account. That distribution center is closed on Saturday.

According to this website, the distribution center is still in use, at least for incoming mail. I am sure it is the same for outgoing mail.

Good luck to all. For those that do not receive a letter, remember that the large majority of the class will get in without one :thumb:
