PLEASE RESPOND AS LOAs COME IN

It's FINALLY here!

My son's LOA letter arrived today. He was shaking with a tear in his eye when he opened the envelope. What a great day!! We are in District 32-Dallas, TX

there is nothing like checking your mail and having a letter from west point (sigh of relief)

Remember that an LOA does NOT guarantee you admission. It guarantees you an appointment only if you receive a nomination. More than one person has screwed that part up, or failed to receive a nomination for reasons beyond their control. Stay focused.

I got an LOA and I have a Presidential Nomination, does that mean i'm guaranteed appointment as long as I don't screw up my grades or get arrested or something? :p

Provided you have your nomination absolutely 110% confirmed by admissions, essentially yes. That's the key, though. There are many who assume they qualify for a presidential but do not. What is your qualification?

Yep! I got a Presidential Nomination back in July and my entire application has been done for about 3 weeks. Soo.... i guess thats good!

Class Rank: 1/~410
Are you coming in as a recruited athlete: No way

First- Congrats to those receiving their LOA's!! :thumb:

Now, you need to read the contingencies and take them seriously, even not completing your file can put you at risk of having it withdrawn based on last years experience.

And even once you have an appointment, take the grey cards and other "to-do's" deadlines seriously. Last year admissions indicated they would be withdrawing appointments from those who did not meet certain key deadlines.

The good news is with the LOA you can start thinking about a candidate visit, which I would highly recommend. It really made the difference for DS, and the exposure and insight he gained there have proven true in his plebe experience this year. :thumb:

For those who have not received a letter yet, or not at all: Don't read too much into the various stats & EC's posted. Some will get appointments with lower/less, and others will not with more. So focus on your application, get it complete, rock the CFA, get your noms apps completed (including LOR's, etc). Lot's to do while waiting for appointment season!!

Mine says it's continent upon receipt of a nomination and 'continued excellent work in school'. I have a lot of hard classes. What if a get a B or two?

That should be fine as long as it's not a D or failing.

when does appointment season start??

Sorry, was really just joking with that, given it's now "LOA season".

Previous years we saw occasional appointments from presidential noms start first, but they were few and far between. They could potentially start happening now with LOA holders and presidential noms. (assuming medical, CFA, etc are all complete) . But last year it was mid October before they started. (presidential and the occasional supe nom)

It seems most are gated by the nomination processes, which normally result in decisions in the early November timeframe. Once the nom is in to USMA last year appointments were normally formally offered in 1-2 weeks.

So November thru Christmas is what I'd call "appointment season" if such a thing really exists, as that's when most received theirs last year.

If you want to get analytical, here's the list from last year

Just remember, all of this can change from year to year, and only about 10% of appointees posted their results on the forum.

And remember people were offered appointments just about up to R-day! So don't give up.

Just a dad, so I'll let someone closer to the process comment on exact grades. But the sense we got was they are more concerned if you are slacking off or not. Senioritis gets kids every year!

You'll become familiar with the term, as well as "Bubble wrap" much later. :shake:

My son received his LOA today. His driver's license also came in today's mail, so he declared it the best mail day ever!!

He has a presidential nomination. We've already scheduled his overnight visit to West Point. We'll be going in mid-November.

Just got my letter in the mail. Just need to do get in my CFA by october 15th and it's official. Then I need to call DoDMerb cause I didn't get anything in the mail from them and nomination of course.

I got my LOA today too! Honestly I was not completely confident that I would receive one but what a welcome surprise.
