My PC wants me to sent 60 cookies , is this allowable?

Is acceptance day the same as parents weekend?

Will he get liberty before parents weekend ?

Is it safe for me to book a trip for winter leave or can the plebes be asked to stay on campus during winter leave?

Thanks to all who help me and my fellow pc parents during this state of confusion and concern it is greatly appreciated

they can send food, but definitely send 60 because there is about 38 kids in each platoon this year. parents weekend is the same thing as acceptance weekend, and your candidate will NOT get liberty before then. parent's weekend is the first liberty for plebes. you can go ahead and make plans for winter leave. they will, without a doubt, be able to leave campus for winter break.

Yes, you can send care packages, just make sure you send enough for everyone in his "group." If that's during indoc that will be ~60 people - all the Plebes in his Co and the Company's DIs....

Yes, Acceptance Day occurs on the Saturday of Parents Weekend.

If during Winter Leave you mean Christmas, then yes as the Campus is closed durin g that time period and they usually do certain maintenance items then so he/she won't be asked to stay at that time.

packages are not shared between platoons, even in the same company. enough food for 38 candidates and no more than 5 drill instructors will suffice.

As Jasperdog said, I believe they must leave. Just make sure you follow the rules in the reg. calendar for when he can leave. If you book a flight too early and he still has class, he will not be excused to catch his flight. Make sure he has enough time to get to the airport or train station. Same thought process when returning~make sure he has plenty of time to make it back before his reporting time. Especially the first time home, they get nervous that they will be late and they don't want to be late.

another question

I keep seeing some sort of stings hanging form lots of the kids canteen belts can anyone enlighten me? just curious! Hope everyone else is still living in the glow from our phone calls- I feel so much better now about my DS being away- he is thriving!

The strings are used to keep track of how many times they have refilled their canteens.

Bruce's Bakery is the best and it is right in Great Neck. Everything they make
is great. You can order there for DS/DD and do not miss breakfast there on Parents Weekend. You have to trust me on this one!

Can anyone tell me the best way to get from LaGuardia Airport to my hotel in Garden City. I will not be renting a car, to scared to drive in N.Y.

I highly suggest you go with a rental car. Going from LaGuardia to Garden City does not require any Manhattan driving and is almost all on highway type roads. It's really no different than any other place for driving, just a little more traffic dense.

The reason I say to get a car is that using taxis on Long Island is a totally different beast than in Manhattan. It is also quite a distance for a taxi between those to places as well as Garden City and KP. You will also have a very hard time getting places within Garden City to eat/shop/etc.

I'd rethink the no car idea.....but, the best way would be a car service instead of a straight taxi.

I agree with KP2001; as he notes driving from LaGaudia to USMMA does not involve too much NY driving; once you get off of the belt parkway onto Northern Blvd or the Grand Central Parway onto Lakville Road you are basically in a suburban setting and environ. As such, you end up driving to many places, Long Island Cabs are expensive and you have to call for them and then wait for them to come pick you up. Even if you are staying in the closest hotels (Inn at Great Neck and/or the Andrew) you still need to take cabs or the LOng Island Bus (#58 bus from the Great Neck LIRR station to KP) to and from there to the USMMA and the costs will quickly add up or your triup times will be quite long and inconvienient.

As he notes I'd definately reconsider. If you have made aquantencnes with other parents from your area you might consider sharing a car rental but I'd really suggest that a rental car is the way to go if you can make that happen.

KTB8,

I don't know where you live, but let me third the motion on renting a car. A good GPS and patience will prove a better route than taxi's to and from the Academy. We stayed at the Andrew once and it was the only time we didn't have a vehicle. We hated it! From that point on we either drove to the Academy (from Georgia) or rented a car when we flew into LaGuardia. We flew in about five times and drove about seven (including once in a 40' RV...never again!)

If you do fly in/out think about rush hour traffic pattens. If you do take a day flight, try to get in before or 1300. When flying out, try to book a flight after 1300. The late night flights are the best when driving the interstates though.

I will tell you that on Parents Weekend, Labor Day weekend, the traffic to and from the Island will be more intense especially on Thursday, Friday (outbound) and Sunday, Monday (inbound). We had the same issues in
2007.
