I was wondering if anyone knew for sure when we hear what company and platoon we are in. I heard that it is not in you permit to report package that we should be receiving late this month but that instead it comes in the mail about one to two weeks before I-day. Is that true?

yes.

Be prepared to not know your company or platoon until you arrive on I-Day. Some years the letter was sent within the week of I-Day.

When I was at Summer Seminar, my squad leader said we should get this sometime in June, but everything is behind this year so we may not know until I-day.

DS got his around the 18th of June last year(Alpha 1). It seems that it came in the final mailing before I-Day or maybe via e-mail. More help to parents/family at I-Day so they know which side you are on during swearing in. Don't assume they will all be in order either. Thought DS would be near the front but he actually was near the last rows. They did march into Bancroft in order, though.

For the class of 2014, company notification came in a letter dated 14 June 2010.

In what order do plebes march? Do they sit by Company order?
Do parents get there early to hold their spot? I-day video shows so many parents and looks like you have to be really lucky to be able to actually see your Plebe during the marching or Oath. I don't want to stalk my DS, but I do want to see him marching or taking an oath.

Assuming you are concerned about swearing-in. The plebes will file into T-Court by companies and will sit with their assigned company. You probably won't see your plebe until AFTER the swearing-in, and then for only about 20 minutes. There will be signs posted so that the plebes can find their parents more readily. One thing you'll discover quickly is that NAVY (and the other SAs are control freaks). I am certain there will be many other discussions of the events of I-Day that will go into more detail. Be certain your plebe arrives at Alumni Hall a bit ahead of time, enjoy the refreshments and cameradery at the tents for parents across from Alumni Hall, and meet some of the alums from USNA 1966 who will be interacting with 2016 during the next four years. There may be opportunities to catch a fleeting glimpse of your plebe, but he/she will be busy. Several posters in the past suggested a nutrition bar or sandwich might be appreciated in the meeting after swearing in. It is hectic for the plebes and they actually will be looking forward to taps.

Swearing in

From what I recall last year, the plebes file in from both sides. As you face Bancroft Hall, companies 1=15 file infrom the right and fill in the seats from front to back (ie the latter numbers are closer to the back and the parents) and the other half of the plebe companies file in from the left.
Good Luck finding your plebe (we were lucky and did find ours walking in) The sun is bright and in your eyes, difficult to see.
As for saving seats, it is frowned upon unless you are sitting in them the whole time. Some folks last year "saved" seats with paper/tape etc however, it was not looked upon too kindly. If you are seated in the bleachers, keep in mind that it takes time to file out of them to find your plebe afterwards and you really don't have that much time to "visit' and say good bye.
Tribling walk is marked off on either side behind the bleachers with flags and letters. As I recall, the letters A-O are on the right as you face backward from Bancroft and the remaining are on the left. Try to wear something that your plebe can spot you in quickly (bright color ) Bring a towel or cheap picnic tablecloth (ie water proof) for mid to sit on so they do not stain their white works. Bring a cold drink and food for Mid and take lots of pictures. Be sure to stay until the end after the new plebes march into Mother B (Bancroft Hall) as it is very emotional to see. Be prepared for some tears as they play a funeral type drum beat for the plebes to march into and as they slam the huge doors of Bancroft Hall shut. Quite the exclamation mark on the end of the day! Feel free to PM me if you want any more specific info.
Enjoy your Waldo watching over the summer and get out pen and paper to write lots of letters.

Also, there is a setup for those plebes who do not have family, friends, significant other in attendance. So if you are going to I-Day alone, make sure to stop by the "unaccompanied" plebe area (tradtionally there has been refreshments provided and sometimes a cell phone to call back home -- since your personal cell phone will be locked up).

No one should feel "alone" after the Induction Ceremony.

onee,
Slight correction to the above --- Tribling should be Stribling.

Correction on Swearing in

I mis stated above, for swearing in the companies 1-15 file in from the Left if you are facing Bancroft Hall and the remaining companies filed in from the right. Sorry about that confusion.
