Son is feeling pretty good so far...

He's taking a heavy load and the grades are holding up. The nightly 3.5 hour study period works out well for him. Now he has to keep going.

Mom and Dad feel good that he seems to have settled in quite well.

That's awesome:thumb:

DS is feeling the same way too! He also says he's getting more sleep this year then he did his senior year of high school!

Indeed, there is high degree of both structure and time allocated for both. Mids cannot claim "no time" or "too tired" as causes for academic difficulties. Especially when tutoring and access to profs is added to this scenario.

Grades

DS is telling me he needs more sleep and that he is only getting 5.5 hours a night. Maybe he's not making good choices? I'll find out this weekend as I will be visiting :)

DS seems to have adjusted nicely. Grades were good, load seems heavy to me, 6 classes plus PE (Is PE still considered a class and then they also have a sport?), but he doesnt seem to be struggling.

I think he's tired but not exhausted. I'm sure that will change as the year progresses!

PE is a once-a-week class. They can validate, however. For instance, one of my sons validated swimming. As a result, he does not have to attend PE. It becomes a free period. It does not affect their GPA. It does affect their class-standing, however. Also, it does not count as "a sport". They must still play on a team or participate in intramurals.

I remember validating boxing. There were only two guys in our PE class that told the coach that they thought they could validate. It was me and another guy. So, the coach put boxing gloves on both of us and let us duke it out. We just pawed at one another, which was the unspoken custom for boxing. And then he yelled at us, "Gentleman, you will not be validating unless you stop *****-footing around!" Then we started to wale on each other. We smacked the crap out of one another. But we validated. I think the coach got some kind of sick enjoyment out of that. It was worth the extra free period per week. Free time was like gold! Back in those days, we had classes on Saturday. They don't do that anymore. (By the way - does anybody know when that ended?)

Indeed there is some validation for PE, notably swimming. I'm unaware if Mids can still validate boxing, martial arts, etc. I don't think so for most. And this illustrates one of the gripe factors of many Mids. These minor aggravations that are clearly time consuming, and end up being precisely like HS PE courses. Go, do it, return. I know a firstie who's making the best of it ...fall volleyball (PE ...it's been "axed" as an IM event as the PTB determined not sufficient sweat was being expelled.) and spring golf. FORE! Hey, someone(s) have to use that course.

My Plebe reported that one of the Prof's said: "I dropped all grades that were above 90 down to 85 and raised all that were below 60 up to 70. I did that to motivate you." Huh?

BONUS! A plebe can fail a test and end up with a 'C' while the kid with a 69 still gets a 'D'! I guess failure IS an option in that class!

My plebe was able to validate wrestling and therefore has a free period this semester.

My plebe was able to validate Boxing by taking it as his sport during Plebe Summer - no prior experience. He also has a free period this semester and has wrestling to look forward to.
