Plebe Summer Attrition

No problem!
The "100" turned back is a little high. They started with 1226 and now have 1144. That's 82 that have left for various reasons. I know that 11 didn't show up and 5 didn't get off the bus. That leaves 66 that left during BCT. For some, it's because it wasn't a fit. For others, it was medical. Being sick isn't usually a turn-back.

The not showing up part I just struggle to understand. After going through the entire application process, accepting the appointment and then going through the paperwork/scheduling flights prior to arriving, why would you not a least show up and give it a go? If it isn't for you then I get it. But to come so far just to walk away at the last minute is hard for me to fathom.

Or is that number possibly some who originally accepted and then were accepted to another academy so later declined?

No, these were people who accepted and didn't show. I suspect that they failed to notify USAFA that they accepted an appointment with another service academy. That's just speculation on my part, though. There are always people who change their minds at the last minute - sometimes they get caught up in the whole process, then realize its not what they wanted ... or it was what their parents wanted. It's not something we'll ever know.
