We had heard that there was a service in which a photographer took pictures of the plebe class throughout the summer. Thorton studios has a website that states they do this, but nothing new is listed. We did not receive any information on this either. Any helpful information or direction on this subject would be appreicated.

Thanks

In the past Thornton took pictures and you can see prior threads on that topic, their pics tend to be rather pricey. Not sure if they will also be doing that this year, but plebe summer just started.

The offficial USNA site has already posted a number of plebe summer pic (all for free !!!) and in the past the various parents clubs would also post pics that individuals submitted.

It will take Thornton a few days, maybe a week to start posting pictures.

The USNA site actually redirects you to the Facebook page, not sure if you need to belong to Facebook to view, but it is easy to create a profile even if you don't use Facebook.

Go to www.plebesummer.com and you will be directed how to become a member. It was about 40 dollars last year to join and then you can order pics if you want. I spoke with one of the photographers last week and they are doing things differently this year. Sounds like there will be less evolutions that will be photographed this year as compared to last year. I did order pics last year, and yes they are pricey but it kept me sane last year. There are also some moms on the list serv who take and post pics all summer for free as well. Happy Waldo Hunting.

this really has nothing to do with this thread but i just thought that for all the parents of the 2016er's you should be expecting your first phone call next week but if you are all like my parents were im sure you guys already know that lol

Between Thornton, FB, and the listserve we found a significant number of photos of our 2015. Although pricey individually, we decided a small number of photo's - about 10 from the pro's were well worth it. It kept the parents and loved ones connected and will give our mid some memories for his reunions in 2035, 45, 55, etc... You only do it once

Thornton's site

I read on their site that they lost their contract. The Alumni Association are taking their own pictures and I think you have to be a member to access them but am not sure. Correct me if I am wrong, that's what I understood. The Academy has a Facebook page that has several photos listed, but good luck finding your plebe amongst all of those white uniforms! :)

The Alumni Association is very cheap for all you get. They are a great organization.

Mom2016, be patient, take your time and you will find (Waldo) your son. We found many great photos of our now Firstie son and never paid anything. Look through the USNA facebook site and search for Nushi Dropshots on Google...Nushi is our hero taking many thousands of photos throughout Plebe summer...get a cup of coffee and look thorough all the great photos from these "no-cost" sources...it makes Plebe summer fly-bye...Good luck...

While I know it's hard, realize that in my day (not that long ago), there was no Thornton. There were no Alumni Association pix. There were no mothers/former mothers snapping pix. There was no Facebook. There was not even an Internet. In short, parents had ZERO pix of their mids during PS.

Somehow, we all survived.

Look at the available pix and, even if you don't spot your child, you'll have a good sense of what he/she is doing.

In 7 short weeks, you'll likely be at PPW and have lots of time to see your child in his/her new environment. In the meantime, rest assured that the USN is taking excellent care of him/her. Seriously.

IMHO, I truly think most parents and family are far better off without the non-competitive prices Thornton charged and the outdated and navigationally challenged website they used for customers searching for their Waldo/Waldette....Between the Academy FB site and the Alumni Assoc. photos everyone should be able to glimpse their plebe or detailer:thumb:

Thornton

I recd an email from them yesterday and apparently the DOD informed them that they had to change their format for privacy reasons. The new sitenshould be up later this week but you have to select and pay forma contract first
