Just thought I would start a second thread to get the conversation re-focused on the upcoming phone call.

In retrospect, the first call was so haphazard. My spouse and I have so many questions we want to ask, but we want our son to lead the conversation. We are half thinking of making a list of questions to ask, things we talk about in the evenings when it's (now) just the two of us. For instance, we haven't heard a thing about roomate(s).

The time of the call doesn't matter this time. We presume it will be after the noon meal, based on our experience and that of so many other posters with the first call. We will be close to home (100 yards/feet/inches) with someone always in the house. His siblings want to be home as well.

We got a great postcard this week which relieved so many of our anxieties and takes the pressure off this call, at least for us.

I hope you all get a good call.

making a list

My daughters made fun of me because I made a list of things to talk to my son about during the first call. Afterward they said that it was such a great idea. For the past two weeks everyone in the family has been going to the list in the kitchen and making notes. We have about 20 things already!

One thing that I did that I will do again Sunday is to be the one TAKING notes on the phone call while my husband is on the other extension asking and talking as well. When I finished the conversation I had thought DS sounded bummed, but my husband had the oposite impression. I was also glad I had two pages of notes to relay to grandparents, etc. Can't wait until Sunday.

We were actually in the car driving back from an out of town wedding...so I put my son on speaker phone, and my teenage daughter took out her cell phone and recorded the audio....so now we can replay it! Hope to do that again tomorrow!!

Last time our phone call was 30 minutes - so I'm hoping that this one is as well - I guess it depending on the company and what they were up to that day.

List of questions ready.....tested phone to make sure it's working.....waiting waiting waiting...........! :thumb:

Phone call

Still waiting. I checked the phone 3 times and its still working. How long was the call this time?

Got our call! He's been allowed to have 30 minutes so we made sure to only take 20 so he could try to speak to his GF who's in D.C. right now. He sounded GREAT! Okay, he SOUNDED like he's had the plebe hack for weeks (he has) but he was so upbeat! Loves the sailing, looking forward to boxing and wrestling, did well on the rifle and pistol range and they're all coming together as a group. Also said that new detailers actually start tomorrow. Said one of the old ones (they haven't left yet) looked across the table at him and said, "I see your Dad's on Facebook" (His mom and my husband have been in touch since the beginning but neither of them told the guys!) DS said he just kinda laughed and said, "Sir, yes sir".

When he got the hack checked out, they told him they wanted to test him for allergies too. We simply told him to do what he thought best. It was a great call. I wish the same for all of you!:thumb:

Me too...the waiting is really getting to me. I keep thinking maybe DS won't be able to call since he is up in his rack with his ankle condition....?????:frown:

I have not gotten the call yet, and from the posts above, no one else has either.

We got our call around 1:40 almost exact same time as 1st call. This call was MUCH more positive than the last one. That was a relief to us. He said current detailers are really building up the new staff to be big and bad, but he's taking that with a grain of salt. The last 10 seconds were frantic, with the detailers yelling at them to hang up and all of us yelling "Good bye, we love you" And knock on wood, no plebe hack yet.
Hope you all enjoy your 30 minutes!

Received our call at 3:40pm. He told us he had 30 mins, but was cut short as a huge storm was brewing (we could hardly hear him near the end - so frustrating!) and they were hustled inside. They were allowed to continue talking, but we got cut off - not a great way to end the call.

If you haven't heard from your Plebe yet, I'm guessing they'll probably wait until the storm passes, so that they can go outside and get a signal.
Hang in there!

Received our call at 3:30. It was a good call - he sounded upbeat and liked the things he was doing. Sure, some of it is a pain, but he's getting through. The 2nd set of detailer shows up tomorrow, but that is not a major concern (yet).

All in all, things are going ok.

We were watching thatt storm from Luce. The trees were parallel to the ground. The area (Cooper road) where a lot of the plebes were calling from is currently flooded. I walked by them them calling in formation, was strange to me, I never saw that done.

In son's words "I'm doing FANTASTIC!". Whew! A few letters this week had some ups and downs but he's realizing the chaos is critical. Has the mini-hack, wants bleach pens, fruit snacks, cough drops. Loves sailing, and something called E-Course. Meals are an accomplishment, a way to break up the day. Got his classes picked, validated Calc1&2 and placed into 3 with vectors...and he's EXCITED about that!, invited into some math class (??), spent the entire morning cleaning his room and writing letters, likes his squad. Sounds like he's able appreciate a few things!

OOOH, and what do you think it means if they did not call home? If he had the chance, I'm sure he would have called home. I know I have not missed the call. Stinks!

I read that the storm was coming fast as the plebes were standing outside in formation to get cell service. 1 platoon had to cut the calls short and run in. The street was later flooded. I'm thinking the storm interrupted the calls.
