Plebe Summer shoes

Has anyone heard which sneakers are going to be issued on I Day. I thought I read that it was a good idea to get them ahead of time and begin to break them in by running. There is a parents website, circa 2004, that has NB listed for that Plebe Summer.

mjcjac, you bring your own pair of running shoes to the Academy I have been advised that they can be whatever color but try to get primarily white/ blue and definitely don't get anything like neon green :)...
I also heard we will also be issued cross-trainers but some told me these aren't good to run in...?
 
I read somewhere (I think it was class of '07 packet someone posted on the forum) that they use a certain new balance shoe because it adjusts to most foot shapes well. Also, I think they are pretty strict about the majority white part of shoes you bring. It is my understanding that you can bring a pair of your own as long as they fit the criteria, but you'll end up wearing you nb's anyway. I started the fitness program in the '07 packet that said to buy new shoes because shoes older than 6 mo are twice as likely to cause lower stress fractures.
That's about all I know.
 
Like I said, this is what I was told by a couple of people at the Academy so it may change for our class- apparently we only wear the running shoes we bought for PEP and some other things. And then we wear the NB for the rest of the time- more uniformed, etc.
 
You will wear the NB shoes (at least 2012 were issued NB) with your "whiteworks" (Plebe Summer) uniform until you earn the privilege of wearing "leathers."

usnahopeful is correct that you will be able to wear your own running shoes for PEP. Why not a neon color? Just imagine your first morning PEP. What will the cadre notice? Neon shoes. Do you really want to be noticed? :eek: Just asking....

idk about neon, but i saw a picture of a plebe in PEP wearing dark blue nikes with bright yellow nike swoosh logos. that caught my attention in the photo so i bet it was drawing attention.

Is the "leathers" the black dress shoes that I've seen in a few photos? ive only seen the whiteworks uniform and i have no clue what other uniforms the plebes wear during the academic year.
 
i'm planning on doing pole vault at the academy, what about spikes if i bring them wont they take them away? and if they do how will i do the track try outs?
 
You can have your mom send the spikes to the attention of the coach if you do summer track and field. Mine sent the running spikes a few weeks in.

LOL on the mostly white - get the running shoes that best fit your feet - I wear a specific brand and they were white and purple. No cares about the color but your feet will care about the fit.
 
Lots of truth in CurrentMids statement. I sent my sons track spikes to the XC coach.

His running shoes that he reported to IDay wearing and wore for PEP and XC practice were white black and gold - yes Army Colors! no one said a thing to him. They were the brand he has worn for running all through HS and fit his feet well.
 
Shoe inserts?

My son over pronates and wears a really supportive track shoe (asics) ... but for other "official" shoes are they allowed to have inserts/orthotics? that could make a huge difference ...:smile:
