I am currently in the corps of cadets at Va.Tech and apparently everything we do are supposed to be similar to that of service academies. I was a USMA candidate but I wasn't triple qualified (which is why I didn't get in) here are some of the questions I have..

    - Do plebes have hair privilege and do they have to drag and sound off to upper class cadets in the UA? (dragging=walking on the right side

    - Do plebes get their privileges taken and given to them by a higher ranking cadet that is directly in charge of them? (in my case it would be our C/FSG)

    - Do plebes have to hold their backpacks as they walk to and from classes (basically are they not allowed to wear their backpacks?)

    - Are plebes also not allowed to interact with the upperclassman cadets?

These are a lot of questions but I am just curious how things work here v. at USMA

Can't speak to the rest but I'm confident plebes, or anyone in uniform, is not allowed to carry a backpack other than holding it. I don't know of any type of ROTC or academy program that allows it. Can you imagine how terrible and unprofessional the uniform would look? Especially those smart looking VA Tech uniforms!

I have seen a couple of pictures of USMA cadets wearing a backpack, but they were wearing ACUs (one may have been a Plebe); one cadet was wearing "as for class" uniform with black jacket and one was wearing same uniform without jacket -- both wearing backpack.

I'm not sure what hair privilege is, but after Beast (when their heads were shaved) they are allowed to let their hair grow out a little, but it still has to be within regs. I don't know the specific length. My DS always liked his hair short so he probably gets it cut every few weeks.

GoArmy92, your questions remind me of another poster, gridironkid.

I had the exact same thought, Dixie, and the age is correct, if 92 is his birth year. The kid needs to give it up.

I'm a yuk, but I can answer your questions.

    1. Besides BEAST where they shave your head, hair privileges are the same for all classes once the school year starts.

    2. You have to greet upperclassmen with their rank, but no "dragging." I honestly do not even know what that is really, except that in non academic buildings you do have to walk on the outward wall of the hall.

    3. You can wear your backpack like you would anywhere else.

    4. Yes you can, but you must include rank.
