As the (tat-free) father of a recently appointed class of 2020 18 year old, I have a question. Our DS is dead set on getting a tattoo today as his varsity basketball career is over, he is honored by an appointment to USMA and he feels this is the time to get his first tattoo. My instinct is to encourage him to wait but it's his choice. Does anyone have any thoughts on the public perception of plebes with visible tattoos at USMA? I am familiar with the actual guidelines but I am wondering about actual reactions from his superiors. Thanks.

I agree with you to wait. In some situation he may not be able to donate blood.

In my opinion, hanging on to those high school days may cause him to be like "Uncle Rico" from Napoleon Dynamite years later

This is a subject that reappears almost every year. Search "tattoos" in the USMA forum and you will see the previous discussions if you haven't done so already.

Comes up every year. Lots of threads on here. As someone with a lot of tattoos, I say wait. Wait until he graduates and understands the role and perception of being an Army officer.

Interesting that when I applied "tattoos" in the search bar nothing came up. Naturally I did that before I posted. Must be a limit to my functionality in my app.

The search function on the app doesn't work very well. Try searching on a computer/laptop instead.
