Plebes, Cadets, Swabs, ROTC, Rats & Knobs! Oh My!

My mothers father was a navy mustang who made it from a seamans apprentice to a LTCommander and flew in WW2 and Korea.

My dads father was a Air Force Staff Sergeant who flew in WW2 and Korea.

My Great Uncles were war heroes (silver stars) at Monte Cassino and the Battle of the bulge, respectively.

My other great uncle was one of General Pattons aide.

Two of my Uncles were in the army and marine corps and fought in Vietnam.

I guess its always been in my blood plus I dont feel like going through the normal cliched college experience of drinking and partying all day. I've done all that and its just a waste of time. I want to be able to tell my kids that when I went to college I actually learned something that made me a better person.

Steve, I was in my freshman year of high school at Lakenheath 60-61 when the 100's stood alert -- our dorms were at the end of the runway (dad was at RAF Bruntingthorpe)... just a few years earlier!
The Lancers!

I well remember the school (our cub scout troop met in the gym) and the dorms. And it's still there; more modern, but still the same place!

My son made the decision during the 9-11 tragedy too. Riding to school with my wife (his mom) he said he was not sure how, but he wanted to "help America like dad does." I had just retired from the Army and was away from home on business. I retired as an SFC; his mom an Army veteran; his uncle was USMA Class of '86; two other uncles were Marines; my dad, his grandfather - MSG retired (Korea & Viet Nam); great-grandfather WWI... now he will be USMA class of 2013.

Can you see me smiling proudly right now?

my son watched 9/11 on TV and was moved to serve.

But he was in England when the London subway bombing occured, and a day before he was in the same area as the bombings celebrating that the 2012 Olympics would be in London, that really sealed the deal for him.

USMMA-class of 2010.
