I've read on this forum that the colleges we listed are given an opportunity to check 4yr, 3yr, and no. Are we offered all of the 4yr and 3yr checked schools?

Are there reasons other than likelihood of getting into the college that the school might check no?

Can someone explain how CC uses those checked boxes?

I'm no expert, but I think once the scholarship board selects you to receive a scholarship, they send it to your first choice school. There, the cadre have the opportunity to check 3 or 4 year, or none at all. It continues down your list, and you may get more offers.

Keep in mind that just because the board selects you to receive one, doesn't mean the schools will want you. If you only listed Ivy League schools and had a 3.5 GPA/24 ACT, they will most likely wait until a better candidate comes along. So you don't want to have a top-heavy school list.

You got it backwards.

The Battalion checks the 3yr or 4yr boxes before the applicants go before the board.

School/Battalions have no say in who gets a scholarship to their school on the national board. The only thing the Battalion can do is check the box that says they would be willing to use one of their scholarship allocations for the applicant.

Why a PMS would select 3yr or 4yr could involve several factors, whether they think the applicant will stick with the program, want to see them for a year first, confidence that they will complete the program, and so on.

Do the schools that you list for selection on your AROTC application see if other schools offered a 4yr or 3 yr? Im wondering if it there could be a scenario where a school does not check yes to a 4yr or 3 yr because another school(s) already have.

The Battalion has three things they can designate, and this is done prior to the board.

first they have a block that states "Meets Admissions?". They can check yes or no
Then they are given a block for 4 year and one for three year, and again a yes or no.

The guidance given to the PMSs in our brigade is that the only reason to give an applicant a no is if they do not meet admissions requirements.
