my portal has my GPA and it is unchanged. I am taking all IB courses and I was just wondering if I will see my changed GPA, because the AFA obviously will change it based on my rigorous courses and school profile.

Don't qoute me, but I think Afa does it according to their scale. Your schools scale might be different then theirs, thus the difference. I'm assuming your applying for this year? And if so I'd get on that soon, seeing as you'll be goin before board soon. (Assuming your packet is complete.)

Every school is different, and the way the academy weighs the gpa will be different. Sometimes it doesn't change at all.

E.g. My son was in the IB program for all 4 years of high school. 9th-12th grade. He didn't take just IB classes, but the entire program. CAS, TOK, diploma, etc... All 4 years, he held a 4.0 gpa. His class rank was #1. Yet; on his application/portal, his GPA stayed at 4.0. It didn't go any higher. While IB is international; AP is national; and yet some student's GPA changes, and others don't. Don't expect it to change, and don't expect it to stay the same.

But FWIW: Your GPA is only a small portion of the overall academic score. They give additional points for honor classes; additional for AP; additional for IB; additional for College/HS transfer; etc.... Then they add more points for your ACT/SAT, class rank, electives, etc... Don't worry about it if it doesn't change. You aren't being cheated out of anything.

Same with my son's GPA on the portal so we asked and they told us their formula for calculating final GPA doesn't show up on their portal. It's internal. On the portal is usually just the number from your HS transcript.

You are correct lucky that reweighting the gpa is an internal. However; some of the external scores on the portal have been changed. It's obviously easy to see when a school weights their gpa's and an individual has higher than a 4.0. You can see if it came down. But if you already have a 4.0 unweighted, it make go up. You don't know.

This question's a bit different, but GPA related.

I got my report card for the first semester of my senior year. My unweighted cumulative GPA went up .1 from the gpa showing on my portal (3.4 to a 3.5217). I think my weighted GPA went up .1 also (4.3 to 4.4565). Would admissions care to see this? Do they care for GPAs at semester or even in mid-senior year?

*And by "care" I mean "will it change my Academic Score at all" :thumb:

It never hurts to update you application. The fact that it's past January 31st, I'd suggest calling your academy counselor tomorrow, and ask if it's too late to send it. Let them call the ball. Best of luck to you. Mike...

Well my whole application isn't even complete yet
Just have the CFA left... that's a different story.

Thanks for the quick response!
