Received a post card today from our son, which really made our day! He is in a good place, both physically and mentally.

Told us to hold off on sending any more food, that they have more than enough.

We got a postcard today too, well actually my 10yo son got a postcard from his big brother. His two sisters also each got a letter from him, we hit the letter lottery today! He sounded much more positive then his phone call was. Made my day!

Received postcard and 3 letters so far. These later letters aren't quite a positive as his first, and his phone call, put they do contain quite a few happy faces and funny stories. Can tell they are getting tired. Said Plebe Hack is rampant, but he just has mini-hack. They were forced to change rooms in under an hour, and he said it was very hard but gave him a chance to discover all the mail and care packages he had forgotten he received!

Well, they are to the halfway mark and the new detailers sound pretty full of energy!!!

singapore - a former Plebe mom in our state's parent club suggested that we send some Vitamin C drops in second care package to help ward off the hack. We did, but don't know yet whether they were useful. Guess we'll know on Sunday.

Thanks! I'll send vitamin C in the morning. The one thing he asked for are Cliff Shot Block....an electrolyte chewy. Had to find them online, but sending a box every week.

Got a two page letter from D yesterday - actually big brother got the letter. He was her personal trainer last fall & winter as she recovered from a severely broken ankle and getting ready to take CFA. She detailed the fitness regime they go through starting at 0530 and going on throughout the day. Said she has only lost 3 lbs because the food is loaded with extra calories. That they’re weighed once a week to make sure none are loosing excessively. (One squad-mate has lost 20 lbs and is being watch closely.) Plus, she reported they somehow find time to take classes, tests, marching, etc. She said she’s having “fun”. She asked for icy-hot balm and craisons. Asked for envelopes so she must be writing to friends too.

No fighting the hack. I held off the entire first set until the last day, when I got it after a dip in the Severn. I'd spend less time trying to fight off the hack, than trying to treat it when it happens.

The hack is nasty, I got to the point where I would get half way through yelling sir yes sir and I'd drop into a coughing fit. I struggled talking if I didn't have cepracol in me.

Cough drops a wonderful gift for your plebe.

We recieved 2 long and extremely postive letters today from DS written one day before he broke his ankle, which would have been last Sunday. It was hard to read about all of the things he wrote about doing in the next couple of weeks like trying for a spot on the Sprint Football roster. But, we are trying to remain positive as last night our town held a large parade and Col. Bud Day was the parade marshal. He talked about his days in the war camps surviving with other war vets with broken bones and how they were well trained and came out of there alive. It gave me chills. DS also said that the highlight of his week was singing the Navy Hymn in the chapel with his dressed up whiteworks. Everyone, please say a prayer tomorrow morning for our son. Thanks.

lovethenavy- your son is now apart of our family. He belongs to all of us here. When you cry, we cry. When you rejoice, we rejoice. With so much power of love and prayer coming his way, it can only turnout okay.

I come from a small family - parents both only children and 2 brothers and 1 sister. This Navy family is amazing. This last post brought tears to my eyes (what doesn't these days?) Thank you and God bless.

Hi All,

Glad to hear all your plebes are doing well. What they are doing now is probably the most demanding part. I will pray for them all. Tell them there are normal everyday people, who think about them. Also thanks for their service to the best country in the world and defending our freedom.

God Bless and God Speed,

RGK

Plebe Summer is miserable. It isn't really hard, but they monotony is just painful. I'm sure all of your kids will be ok. Just let them get sick and hurt. Don't try to help them. It makes them tougher and it makes the stories better on the backside.

Nice letter from son today. He is hanging in there, not exactly having the time of his life , but not having second thoughts either. He said he feels the worst for the plebes who are doubting. He devoted a whole paragraph of his letter (that might not seem like much, but if you'd see how short his letters are...) to how much he and his platoon mates try to encourage each other when someone gets down. I hope everyone's kid is having that experience, because I think it could make all the difference. Still, two of his friends were considering tango last week.

He did say that the Hack is rampant. He was just getting it when he wrote, but that was the 15th. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if he's feeling better. There did seem to be signs of a growing confidence in this letter. The first two weeks, he described himself as "useless"; this week he's "tired". Quite an improvement!

Great news on the weapons front: He qualified Sharpshooter with rifle (168 bullseyes out of 170 rounds) and Expert with pistol (240 bullseyes out of 240 rounds) :thumb: Needless to say, that was described as a good day! (Oh, he also said he's gotten really fast at getting the Reef Points in and out of that pocket!)
