PPW handbook that was mailed said that we need to stay within the tri-city areas of Balt. Wash. Annap. however, son reported that during the rules & regs meeting they were told no further than 22 nautical miles. Any input?

My Mid, who is a detailer, is under the impression that it will be the same as last year - encompassing the Baltimore and DC metro area's.

Last year there was a presentation to the Parents Friday morning that outlined the limits.

If a plebe is with their parents I doubt anyone would say anything anywhere in the region, just make sure your not going so far as there might be a chance of not making it back on time.

In addition, your plebe will be tired and probably not want to go any farther than baltimore or DC.

Having looked at the map, I honestly can't imagine why anyone would need/want to go further. Personally, I'd pick a hotel in or near Annapolis and let your mid crash, watch TV, email, play video games, eat junk food or whatever else he/she has been wanting to do for the past 6 weeks and couldn't.

Believe me the first thing they will want after Family greetings is a loooooooong shower. Then a Looooooong nap with no one trying to wake them up. Then junk food. Then Family again.:shake:

Hi,

Recognizing that when PPW comes all my child will most likely want to do is crash, I do have a request for a mall run.

Can someone recommend a mall within the area they are allowed to travel? I am not from Maryland so not sure where to start.

Thanks,

GoNavyMom

P.S. I do have the hotel room with cable and internet at the ready.

Annapolis Mall/Westfield Mall out by Riva Road & RT 50. Easy drive (about 15 minutes from gate one). Lots of Plebes and parents wandering around and going to the movie theatre. Across the street are some decent chain eateries if you don't want to do the seafood thing.

Mall gouge

The Annapolis Mall, or "Westfield ShoppingTown Annapolis," is on West St. and Bestgate Rd., only a few minutes from downtown. There are other shopping areas. Has a movieplex, all the usual stuff.

Further out, there is Arundel Mills Mall, you can google it, about 20 minutes away.

Since plebes are with parents, the liberty limit isn't looked at closely. They will find you, escape with you in your car, and no one thinks you really going to take them drinking in Baltimore in civilian clothes. Baltimore and DC metro areas are about right. Allow plenty of time to get them back, because everyone else will be doing the same thing.

As Capt MJ advises: Be back to the Yard way before report time. Traffic gets really rough. If it took you 1/2 hour to get to the hotel it will probably take you 1 and 1/2 hours to get back at report time. You will see Plebes bailing out of cars and running to make it to the gate. We were lucky and had a place within walking distance but saw the runners. :thumb: "Harry Potter" Should be big that weekend so you might want to buy advanced tickets. Popcorn, Soda and Dark Place to be unnoticed; priceless.

Cause it's the Government????:thumb: Actual central location is classified and approximate location is shown but not accurate. Please be advised that this map and file is "NOFORN" and "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY". In accordance with established "PLEBE PARENT PROCEDURE" continue as you see fit. If you are found in violation of the "PLEBE PARENT RULES" the USNA will disavow any knowledge of your existence.

Despite how tired I was following plebe summer I just wanted to spend time w/ my mom and step-dad. They could see me struggling to stay awake and couldn't believe I didn't want to sleep, but they let me do what I WANTED TO DO (that's the key, let your son/daughter tell you what they want to do) and I just wanted to play pool and darts and spend time w/ them. Most likely they will fall asleep the minute they get in the car. Most likely your Plebe wont want to be in uniform the entire weekend.

I second being back on The Yard early - parents I warn you to be prepared for the last day you drop off your Plebe following PPW. My detailers had "I'll be home for Christmas" blaring thru the halls of Mother B. My mom and I thought it was kind of funny as we said goodbye in the parking lot - there were lots of moms and Plebes who didn't find it so amusing.

^^^ They still play Christmas Carols out the windows of Bancroft at the end of PPW. I think it is a tradition. Second on the "Let them do what they want to do and when they want to do it over PPW"

No plans is the best plan!

Really do not go to lunch in King Hall - save that for second class parents weekend, it is no big deal.

Get off the yard, stay off the yard, let the plebe sleep, talk on the phone, and if possible sit on a computer - in the hotel room, not down in the lobby in uniform. All I wanted to do was veg out. Room service is good if you are in one that has it or do take out like pizza.

If they want you to bring civies - bring a few - they know the rules and really do not need the parents to be their policemoms. Bet anything you will bring them and when they think about getting caught they will not dare to venture out in them. Saves everyone from getting into it. Trust me, I speak from experience. The last thing you want to do is remind your plebe of any rules. It's their weekend off.

Agreed. Don't quote midregs or things you've heard about the rules to your plebe. Let them decide on the best course of action. They go to the school and know the rules better than the hounding mid mom.

^^^Bring shorts,T-shirt, sweats and any other civilian clothes. They will change into them immediately at the hotel/wherever:thumb: and then crash. They will love their old clothes and a chance to be out of uniform. They will have to put on the whites if you want to go out.

Why isn't the red circle centered on Annapolis?

Plebes were once required to stay within the 22 mile limit (centered on the Chapel Dome) for PPW just like any other weekend, but that meant DC and Balt. were off limits. I think it was for '11 that they expanded and moved it for the families just to include those areas. Notice how you can go 50 some aught miles West, but you can barely go past the naval station to the East.

DC, BALT ok

Saw the Dant the other day and he told me that the DC/Balt Northern VA area is fine. Just be back in time. This is the same thing we heard and saw at the Sponsor parent meeting.

They will just sleep and eat and sleep and play computer games/facebook anyway. Let them tell you what they want and wing it.:thumb:
