We got back yesterday from visiting our daughter for Plebe Parents weekend.

It was wonderful!

She is healthy minus the stress fractures in her shins. It is AMAZING what they have done to help her: MRI, dye to see exactly the level of the stress fractures...She will be fine - just some time and ice.

I thought she would be ready to crash when we got there. Nope, she wanted to go see a movie! We saw Lucy - very cool movie. She got a mani/pedi, eye brows waxed. She did take a nap - one on Saturday and another on Sunday, but they were pretty short.

She really wanted to visit DC but we discouraged this due to all the walking.

We rented a great house in Eastport that was close to President's point and she took a water taxi Saturday night from there to the main circle (ego row) and had ice cream with a few of her friends before their cinderella liberty ended.

Friday night she was so concerned about being late - she was easily an hour early.

They are all "ready" for academic year to start - I think more for Plebe summer to end.

She did great on shooting! Got expert in pistol and sharpshooter for rifle.

She eats like she has a hallow leg! (Glad the Navy is feeding her now!) :shake:

Oddly enough, it was harder to leave her this time than on I-Day. It didn't hit me until we were walking onto the campus. I wasn't sad, I was proud and happy and thrilled. It was a bit emotional.

She did say earlier on the last day - "I don't know how I got done what I got done in HS with my room and car such a mess." I'm surprised I have a tongue, I bit it so hard!

What a great update, cajost!

Sounds very similar to our visit minus the stress fractures (thankfully!). Oh, and in place of a movie we took a two-hour cruise on the Woodwind II, which was used to film Wedding Crashers, an all-time favorite of ours. Don't judge! Capt. Jen entertained us with little tidbits of the filming process including a photo album showing her sitting low on the deck doing the actually steering of the board while Christopher Walken was at the helm.

It was comforting to listen to my Plebe talk about his summer. He didn't try to sugar coat it nor did he portray it as all negative. He talked about the good, the bad, and the ugly which came across as a pretty realistic picture. The bad and ugly was more a nasty bout with Plebe Hack and Pink Eye that kept him from being 100% as much as he wanted. I would assume your Plebe felt that as well.

He's made good friends, he is looking forward to start of the Ac Year (end of Plebe Summer as you said!), and he is confident that he made the right decision. That's all I needed to hear.

I also found this goodbye more emotional although I can't explain why. I did not cry on I-day until after he had formed up for the march into Mother B. This time I openly cried as I hugged him, which made us both end up laughing as it is so typical for me. I cry at TV commercials so a few tears shed while hugging him was perfectly appropriate.

I forget where you are but believe it is a hike to get to Annapolis. I am under three hours away and will be back up for the season opener football game on 30 Aug as well as most of the other home games. If you need me to pick up anything to take to your Plebe, let me know as I'm happy to do it.

We are in St. Louis. So we cannot "just go" to see her. I might take you up on that. She's also got a very close half-sister that lives in the area.

She was the same about the stories, some were pretty funny - birds pooping on the detailers cover. She has a sinus infection - version of plebe hack? No pink eye - but several in her company got it bad enough to be quarentined.

She wanted girly things - body wash, body spray, shampoo and conditioner.

I tell you I spend a small fortune this weekend between airline tickers, rental of the house, food, entertainment, etc. not that I would change it for the world.

The transformation is pretty impressive. Just the way she talks, walks and sits is visible.

Yay! I am so happy you both had such a great weekend with your Plebes! Just think, they are 1/3 of the way done with their USNA career! Its true what they say, 1/3 Plebe summer, 1/3 Plebe Year, 1/3 as Upperclassmen! Enjoy your years by the bay, they go by in the blink of an eye. Thankfully, as one of mine is starting flight school in Pensacola this week, the other will be starting her 2nd class year, so we'll be back at the yard for 2nd class parents weekend in October! And yet a third is finishing up her application for the class of 2019!
