Prep school or ROTC?

Ok so I received acceptance from NWP and I'm waiting to hear a response from Marion Military Institute (SAP) while I also was accepted at Cal maritime (planning on doing Berkeley NROTC detachment) and I'm awaiting SUNY Maritime's decision (NROTC as well). Which path should I choose? I don't have high hopes if I apply for USNA, but what I think I have a pretty good chance at is USMMA. Would NROTC or a prep school give me better odds? Any input is appreciated!

opinions are like elbows everyone's got them, especially on the internet. Do what you feel is right for you.

Prep School

If you think USMMA is in your future, they send all of their sponsored preps to one prep school - NMMI. Might they have a leg up on the self prep program for USMMA? NROTC or Prep School - both good options. You might consider a prep school that has college credits that transfer in case your plans change over time. Good luck with the decision.

DS long term goal is to become a Naval or Coast Guard officer. He is awaiting word from the NA and CGA too (accepted to SUNY Maritime). In his case, it appears that SUNY Maritime gives him the most favorable options in either reappyling to the NA/CGA or continuing on towards a commission through NROTC. Since he wants to major in engineering, SUNY offers all the major engineering disciplines along with a Coast Guard licensing program. He prefers a military style school vice a regular college. Try to define your ultimate goal and that can help in narrowing your school choices for a plan B. All the best.

Sorry for the late reply - I was out for a family emergency.

I have to agree with Texmom. NWP and Marion are great schools - if they weren't the Falcon Foundation, and Naval Academy Foundation wouldn't use them. However, the USMMA only sends its sponsored preps to NMMI. We have a great working relationship between the two schools.

Because academies offer appointments based on the home geographical area, none of the preps at any of the above compete with each other. This gives the student a huge advantage.

Again looking at Texmom's advice; NMMI is fully accredited by the North Central Agency (same people who accredit the USAFA and Notre Dame). To my knowledge NWP does not offer transferrable credits while Marion does.
