Hello! So I recently have received a congressional nomination for the USAFA, but they have told me that I need to take the SAT in Jan and do amazing on it in order to have any chance to get into the school, but lets say I do not do well and my sat scores aren't qualified- how likely is it that I would be offered an appointment to the USAFA Prep School?

    Thank you :)!

About 12,000 apply. Approximately 2,500 are qualified. About 1,200 are offered appointment. About 240 are offered admission to Prep.
You improve your chances by maximizing everything you can improve. If they are asking you to retake SAT, that means they think there's room for improvement.
    Good luck.

Yes, the prep school really is worth it. It might seem like you are wasting a year, but really you are building a stable foundation that will take some of the stress away from your 4th degree year. Good luck!

    Northwestern Prep

Even if you don't get a slot at USAFAPS I would recommend looking into some other prep schools such as Northwestern Preparatory School in California... It's main purpose is to prepare people for the Academies (and my SAT/ACT scores went WAY up while I was there!!) Check out the website!

    NWP!

    I agree with bmw17

First off, I hope you get an appointment!

    If not...

If you get a falcon scholarship TAKE IT and go to Northwestern Preparatory School. If you don't get a scholarship GO TO NWP ANYWAY. It is a fantastic prep school. I attended it Fall of 2011 as a "free agent". I didn't get into an academy but I wouldn't trade the time I spend there for the world. I'm currently on my third attempt for the academies.

The way NWP works is: go to the school for the fall semester, go to a local college in the spring (I'd do community college, its cheaper and it doesn't matter where you go as long as you get good grades). It is a fantastic program, my scores went up significantly.

It really is a great school, check out their website!
