Hi I had a couple questions regarding prep school. I am seriously considering prep school, and if I don't receive an appointment I may take that path. So I was just wondering, what is the transfer rate of people from prep school into the academy. Also how are the academics like? How are the classes set up?

I remember seeing that one school had something like a 95% transfer rate (for those that attempted to transfer) and I'd guess that most prep schools have a pretty high transfer rate just because their sole purpose is to prepare you for and get you into the service academy of your choice.

you can not "transfer" from a prep school to the Academy.... the credits do not "transfer". My kid is a CGA Scholar at NMMI, her college credits will transfer to another school IF she doesnt get her Appt., but she will still have to do 4 yrs at the Academy. So she will have a total of 5 yrs of college courses when she graduates in 2014 from the USCGA. I am pretty sure it is the same thing with the other Academies, but i could be wrong....

Lets clear a couple things. I think when the OP said "Transfer Rate" they meant as in: "What are the percentage of prep school students that get to go to the academy". Well basically; as long as you pass all your classes; don't get into trouble; then your odds are extremely good to get an appointment to the academy.

Now; one thing the OP said that needs to be clarified. YOU, don't get to CHOOSE whether you want to go to the air force prep school or not. You must apply to the air force academy; and if you don't receive an appointment, the academy MAY OFFER YOU the opportunity to attend the prep school. Normally, the prep school is for those that except for a minor academic issue, are otherwise considered extremely competitive candidates. And it is a little tricky. If for some reason you had a 3.9gpa; excellent test scores; etc... but you didn't get offered an appointment; "Possibly because of a lack of leadership, athletics, etc..."; then chances are extremely slim that they would offer you the prep school. The prep school is offered to those who have the leadership, extra curricular, sports, athletics, and generally speaking very good academics. They just missed out on the appointment because of a particular area. E.g. 3.85 gpa but a 25 ACT. Or; a 36 ACT, but a 3.4gpa. Either way, the point is; you don't get to choose to go to the prep school. You apply to the academy; they decide whether to offer you an appointment; the prep school; or nothing at all.

Has anyone ever heard of an offer to prep school when a medical waiver was denied?

Is it a medical condition that can be corrected? If not, then you'd still be disqualified to attend the academy. So they wouldn't allow you to the prep school. The prep school is as the name applies; preparation for the academy. If you're still going to have the same medical condition, there's no way they're going to approve you for the prep school. Plus, the prep school is usually for those who are the prefect candidate, who happen to need a little help academically. That's not to say that they couldn't offer the prep school to a medically disqualified individual who say broke their arm or some other condition that was temporary. I just haven't heard of any.

USAFA Prep school-what I've seen

Based on info given on I-Day and at the Parents weekend briefings- it seems about 70-80% of the prep kids are recruited athletes-keep in mind that they field a football team as well as other sports both male and female. About 20-30% are prior enlisted. Most, like my son, missed an academic score.

Here is the link to the official site.

Pretty sure he's referring to the Falcon Foundation Prep Schools not usafa prep. If you are talking about usafa prep jarvin send me a pm as I am a preppy and will be willing to answer any further questions.

Thanks guys for your help. I was initially thinking I may have been offered an opportunity to do prep school before I was to go into the academy, but I received my LOA for USAFA a week ago. Anyways I hope my question answers those who were wondering the same thing. Really appreciate your guys' help again though.
