Did you have a point to make or were you just giving us something interesting to read on Sunday morning?

What do you make of this? I'm not exactly sure what the point of this executive order is.

Well, if the examiner article's insinuations are even a little bit true, this could be us prepping (just in case) for a conflict at the Strait of Hormuz.

Then again, what do I know, I'm just a grad student in my ivory tower.

Where's that? Is it near the Strait of Hormuz?

Do you think this is a reliable article?

Is it a reliable article? It's from the White House website (so I trust it's true, and I don't trust it).

Lots of domestic stuff in there... I'm not sure, at all, why.

The laws that it refers to have been around since 1950.

And taking control of vital industry and materials was a cornerstone of FDR's war strategy (ask your grandparents what an "A" card is, or how they had to have a coupon to buy a pair of leather shoes, or sugar).

Reagan signed an EO very similar to this one.

    So did Clinton.

This new one adds a few new things and changes a few key words.

It's not really the subject that bothers me, it's the entire process of using the Executive Order to bypass Congressional construction of our laws.

Yes. Agreed. Although the subject also bothers me.

So this is just an update to a document that's been around for quite a while. Although it is interesting that it's being updated now, when tensions between Israel and Iran are escalating.

"...the authority of the President conferred by section 101 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071..."
    ___________________________________________________________

Like it or not, the authority was granted to the President by an act of Congress. As far back as the time of the Roman republic, dictatorial powers were granted to leaders in time of war.

The tensions between Israel and Iran (and among Israel, Iran and the USA) are not particularly relevant to the updating of this law.

I agree. I think this was updated as part of a current review. I don't find it to be particularly disturbing. I feel such power can only be abused if the American people allow it. And if they do... God help us.

There is a link to an article on the Drudge Report that says the update was done now to account for changes to the organization of the government. e.g. DHS

Haha, nice. It only takes them 9 years to figure out DHS exists.

    President Obama signs....

From a emergency management view. I am quite certain this will have a major impacy on how local and state goverments response or or react.

Can you expand on why you believe that. If it was "simple" updates based on organizational changes I don't see why there would be many changes at the state or local level. Not saying your wrong in your opinion, just would like to understand your thinking.
