I'm curious to know the thoughts running through the heads of potential future USNA plebes on the issue of the newly elected President Trump -- specifically, the implications of having a commander in chief who (as he has said himself) opposes women in the military, thinks that if women can't handle a little workplace harassment she ought to change jobs, doesn't support NATO, repeatedly compliments Putin, and doesn't understand why the US doesn't use its nuclear weapons.

No, I am not asking for a comparison between Trump and the defeated candidate. Only the winner is relevant for future plebes.

This is a serious question and most sincerely is NOT a republicans versus democrats thing.

Yes I understand that a plebe may not discuss politics like this. But I am not in the military and my daughter is not yet in the military. This is a serious question, looking for serious feedback. I REALLY want to know if others have kids/applicants who have reacted to this election outcome with concern about a future in the military.

This isn't about me. This is a sincere question - the newly elected president is very different from anything this country has ever experienced. His own words speak for themselves - he does indeed oppose women in the military. He does indeed feel that if women should expect a little sexual attention in the workplace. He really did ask, more than once, why we have nuclear weapons if we will not use them. These aren't opinions and so, do not reflect decisions on my part. I really am interested if anyone has had any second thoughts.

Personally, I don't feel it would be a good idea to make an uneditable/non-deletable post that will likely stay on the internet for decades detailing ones political views when one intends to join the military in the near future.

Then avoid connecting with anyone in the military on Facebook... because MANY are talking about it.

If you believe everything a politician tells you, there is an ocean front property I want to sell you in Arizona. Yes, Trump will be the President and will have both houses controlled by Republicans. However, I don't think Trump is naive enough to try to keep all of his promises.

On a side note, when I was a cadet President Clinton gave a graduation speech. I politely listen to it, but didn't pay any attention to what he was saying.

As for current cadets and further cadets, something along the line of defend the Constution and obey lawful orders. Don't like it, count the days until your service obligation is over.

I have a very simple philosophy in life... If you don't like the boss, don't apply for the job.

Milly: Your DD is free to openly discuss, debate, and posit the POTUS' impact on the future of the military up until she signs on the dotted line. Afterwards, not so much. Once she enters active duty, the President is her Commander in Chief and her "voice" is the ability to freely vote for the candidate of her choice in national elections. She can also leave active duty at the end of her service commitment.

During her military career she stands a good chance to run into racism, sexism, favoritism, liars, cheaters, opportunists and every other negative quality somewhere along the way and these apply to males and females. They will be in leadership roles, peers and subordinates.

The choices are the same: don't join; or deal with it during your time in and depart when your time is up.

Reposted again for a little historical perspective....

"The southern brigade commander was Robert A. Toombs, who enjoyed here his finest hour as a soldier. Disappointed by his failure to become president of the Confederacy, bored by his job as secretary of state, Toombs had taken a brigadier’s commission to seek the fame and glory to which he felt destined. Reprimanded more than once by superiors for inefficiency and insubordination, Toombs spent many of his leisure hours denouncing Jefferson Davis and the “West Point clique” who were ruining army and country. For his achievement in holding Burnside’s whole corps for several hours at Antietam—and being wounded in the process—Toombs expected promotion, but did not get it and subsequently resigned to go public with his anti-administration exhortations."

My son is wondering if he will be able to branch Deportation.[/QUOT
Sound like he picked the wrong department of the federal government.

WOOHOO!!! Wow, that DOES sound like a hoot. Maybe he could even take part in separating families. Even screaming children, running after their mommies. Wouldn't THAT really be fulfilling. Mass deportations. I can't think of a more meaningful, positive way for my child to serve her country. Might be tough to find a single vegetable in our supermarkets, given that they are picked nearly 100% by illegals. But that surely is a small price to pay for the luxury of having a pure country. I can hardly wait.

Hello Moderators! Now I know why you guys moved this. NOT just because it is near that fine line of the rules of this forum. It also probably is even more controversial than that HUGE fight over whether mommies should be allowed to call USNA admissions.

But most seriously, the subject raises the possibility that, under the veil of the anonymity of the internet, the dark side will rise, including the poster above bragging that HER kid wants to be personally involved in mass deportations.

I do hope that you will simply remove this thread. It has run its course. And it is about to sink further, both because I cannot, as a faithful American, let that sort of insensitive post stand (it make OUR military look just awful), and because others will sink further. This is a public forum and who would want outsiders to see this?
