I am applying to the AFA and also AFROTC. I just recieved a letter saying I did NOT recieve a congressional nomination. My dad (former AFA liaison) told me that our district in Florida is one of the most competitive when it comes to those nominations and appointments, and not to be too discouraged because I still have a presidential nomination. I don't want to suffer for a few more months just to be disappointed again when I don't get an appoinment, so how realistic is an appointment looking at this point? I'm a lot stronger on my academics and extracurricular side, 1300 SAT, 4.4 GPA weighted, President of Tri-M (music honor society), almost an Eagle Scout, brotherhood OA, Troop SPL, many other things. And my fitness scores are pretty weak actually, I'll be working on it everyday through this month and January. Mile about 8 or 9 minutes, 3 pullups, 40 pushups, 60 situps, 51 ft basketball throw, 8.1s shuttle run. I'm going to focus on mile, pullups, and basketball throw for the next month and a half. Do I need to work really hard to compete with other presidential nominees? Is it attainable at this point? I guess I'm looking for encouragement or a reality check, thanks guys.
