Presidential Nomination?

To add to this, the parent can also be a participating reservists with a point summary totaling at least 8 years of service or a retired reservist eligible for retired pay but not drawing yet because they haven't reached age 60 (the year they can draw reserve retirement pay)

One note about the reservists, the form that is available from the Academies lays out the requirements. You must have at least 2880 points. You basically get one point a day for each day of training, orders, or active duty time. A typical reservists gets about 75 points per year so in order to get to 2880 you have to have active duty time or lots of deployments. I have 23 years, 7 of it active and have about 3500 points.

With regards to the question about "stats" thanks for all the input. The only question I didn't see answered was "When did they complete their application?" I am guessing most if not all are done no later than early September. And lots of smoke, mirrors, praying, and magic.

Mdrob. Traditionally, the board starts meeting to review completed applications at the end of September/beginning of October. Depends on a lot of factors concerning board members, number of completed applications, etc... Presidential nominations are given out pretty much as soon as you apply for them.

So, in order to get an early appointment using a presidential nomination, you would need to be done with your application probably by the middle of September. We're assuming you're trying to meet the first boards available. A person can receive an appointment with a presidential nomination all the way throughout until april. The academy can give UP TO 100 presidential related appointments.

Again; I can't tell you when others who received an appointment using a presidential nomination finished their applications. I can tell you that because my son had such a big senior year planned, and he did boy's state, summer seminar, and 2-a-day football practices in the summer; he wanted to get ALL of his college applications completed prior to school starting. He had his academy application done around the end of July. He had his early application for other schools done by september.

Doesn't help figure out when others did theirs though. like I said, you can get an appointment with a presidential nomination in April. It's just that all appointments require a nomination, and a presidential, ROTC, and a couple of other military related nominations are about the only other ones available prior to November. (Most congressmen/senators don't do theirs that early; but they could if they wanted to). Of course, there are a few superintendent nominations that are generally held to the end for someone the academy really wants in, but couldn't get a normal nomination. But it is possible for the academy to give one of those out earlier too.
