To whom do I submit a presidential nomination application. Do I send it the the academy itself or what?

Thanks for helping me

For the USAFA you submit it directly to the academy at this address:

HQ USAFA/RRS
2304 Cadet Dr., Suite 2400
USAF Academy CO 80840-5025

I don't know about the other academies.

Each academy web site has a Presidential Nomination application which includes the address where it should be mailed. The address, of course, is different for each academy.

Here is the exact sticky regarding Presidential
Who can apply for a Presidential nom?

As a general premise, Presidential noms are available for children with a parent who has spent at least 8 years on active duty or the equivalent continuous service in the Reserves. The specific requirements are listed on the SA websites. If you have at least one parent who meets the requirements listed, you can apply for a Pres nom. It is done on-line and basically consists of providing documentation (which your parent will have) to support your eligibility. No essays, recommendations, etc. are required.

The President can appoint up to 100 candidates per year. Presidential noms are NOT competitive, meaning that, if your parent meets the requirements, you will receive one.

I have a Presidential nom so I don’t need to apply for MOC noms, right?

Wrong. Please understand that there are MANY more candidates with Pres noms than there are slots. Thus, you give the SA much more flexibility in slotting you if you also obtain an MOC nom. In addition, Pres noms aren’t competitive and SAs like to see that you competed favorably against your peers. Finally, your BGO, ALO, etc. will likely ask what noms you’re seeking and it looks bad if you aren’t even trying for an MOC nom.

EVDfootball, highly recommend you use some Google searches. I typed in USNA Presidential Nomination and it took me right to the form to fill out and all the info. Not trying to flame on you or anything, but part of this application process is learning what it takes to be an officer. A huge part of being an officer is learning the orders and regulations and leading within them and helping your Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Soldiers navigate the military within these orders and regs. At the Naval Academy one of the very first things a new Plebe learns is called Message to Garcia... I will just leave it at that.

Like I said, I am not here to flame on you, just trying to provide a suggestion. Read the stickies about noms and use the search function on this forum. There is tons of information out there.

Pima, as far as I know, the only nomination that is done online is the VP. The President nomination request must be printed/typed out and sent to the service academy with the attached documentation of a parent's service. You are correct in that there are no other requirements necessary.

I took it from the sticky on this forum.

That was cut and paste.

I believe for my DS (USAFA) he did it online. Bullet scanned his documentation and sent it via online.
~ I won't swear by it. I remember hi coming home with the hard copy of his service record. Scanning it, and emailing it. I don't recall mailing anything at all.
~~ This was 7 years ago so my memory could be wrong. Additionally, they always tweak things.

If you are correct, you should contact the mods and have the sticky removed.

Now, in the end, I think this is a little insane.
~ You can only get a Presidential if Mommy or Daddy meet the requirements.

I am with NavyHoops, go to the Google.
~ I get the parent served AD for 6 years, is now Guard/Reserve for the last 10 years, am I qualified for a Presidential? I don't get Dad/Mom is AD, how do I do the Presidential.
~~ Ready for flaming, but here goes... sometimes, it feels like spoon feeding.
~~~ 8 years ago this site did not exist. 15 years ago, 17 year olds did not rely on the internet, they had to do it all on their own.
~~~~ It may be just me, but, as a long time poster I feel it is changing here. It is no longer guidance, but, it is closer to what parents relied on in HS for English...Cliff Notes. The easy way.

Starting next month there will be multiple threads running on every SA, and ROTC regarding CHANCE ME, be it SAT/GPA or CFA. Multiple threads on DoDMERB regarding allergies, vision, marijuana use.
~ Nobody uses the search function in my opinion. It is just easier to start a new thread.

Pima, I agree with you, but that is the sign of the times. I do not spoon feed either I am just a guide for my DD. She has to do all the work, but it does help for me to know what is going on so I can direct her in the right direction. If she misses a deadline, well, there are consequences. Fortunately, my DD is on top of this and she does read the forum and does most of the research herself. For those that don't and want it the easy way, maybe you can avoid some of the frustration by just pointing them in the right direction. Perhaps some of the posters have not had that particular guidance and need a little gentle nudging. I am sure most, if they are competitive enough for the academies, are quick learners.:shake:

I have thoroughly read about the presidential nomination. The part I believe I qualify door is retired with pay. My dad retired in the late 1990's after 17 years. But when he retired their was TERA. Which is the same as the 20 year pension but it is a reduced version. My dad qualifies. Does that mean I qualify for presidential nomination?

EVD, as far as I know, if your dad has a DD214 that says he is discharged as retired, or he has been ordered to the retired list, then you will qualify for a Presidential Nomination. The following is from the site: if your parent was
on active duty and has served continuously on active duty for at least eight years, or
Has retired with pay or has been granted retired or retainer pay, or
Children of reservists may also be eligible (see Section 12733 Title 10 USC for details), or
Has died after being retired with pay or being granted retired or retainer pay;
For adopted children, proceedings must have begun before the child's 15th birthday. It sounds like you qualify for a Presidential nomination. Just be sure to send in a copy of your dad's DD214 with your request.
