Greetings! We heard about 5 weeks ago that DS has a Congressional Principal Nomination to the USNA. Just curious, does anyone have any idea how long of wait we will have before we hear from admissions? DS called admissions after he heard this news of the nom, they said "congrats", but that nothing was official yet. Will they wait until after his 1st Semester grades are submitted before they decide for sure? We 'think' he is 3Q'd.....but hard to know.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

First, they'll wait until the congressman submits his slate which isn't due until Jan 31, although could very well be submitted much earlier. If DoDMERB is complete and he is 3Q, then he should hear soon after the slate is submitted... my guess is a couple weeks after that.

    Congrates and stay healthy

Last year our DS was I informed (by Congressman) that he received a Principle Nom on 3 Dec. His USNA application status page indicated he had received a nomination (did not indicate principle or competitive) on 11 Dec. Received BFE on 3 January. By the way he was 3Q'd in October.
So the time for him, from USNA posting he had a nomination to receipt of BFE was approximately 3-4 weeks.

If you call admissions after your status shows the nom, they should be able to tell you what you have left to do if anything. You can also check with your local moc's office as USNA lets them know the status of the candidates they are interviewing. My DS's local moc coordinator told him he was 1 of only 3 that was triple q'ed. That made a difference to them as they want to make sure their noms get appointments. DS got principal nom.

    A few things:

    1. If you have a principle nomination - I don't know what more information you could possible need from your MOC. Why call them?

    2. I don't think the academy coordinators know who is or is not 3Q'd. The individual service academies make that determination. The MOC's job is to make their own, independent judgment of the candidate and decide to give them a nomination or not. The academy may have a different opinion of the candidate than that of the MOC. For instance, how could the MOC possibly know if a candidate is medically qualified? Nor do they even check that. They leave that up to the service academy (through the DODMERB) to determine. I seriously doubt that the service academy is going to share medical information about the candidate with the MOC.

    3. Provide one of the nominees on their slate is 3Q'd - at least one of them will get an appointment.

I stand corrected. Moc coor knew DS was academically qualified, and since moc asked question about vision on application, DS wrote that he was qualified for AFA and USNA since he had letter saying so.

There is so much more to being medically qualified than vision. You can have 20/20 vision, have no color blind issues, and still not be medically qualified for a vast field of reasons. It happens all the time.

Not sure what else you are referring to. DS was referring to letter from DoDMERB saying he was medically qualified for USNA, USCGA, and USAFA which he received after taking both the vision and medical exams. DS does not have 20/20, but does have qualifying vision. He found it interesting moc's app asked what his vision was, so wanted to let them know he had been medically qualified.

Any news? It took about 3 weeks to receive the BFE after the nom (principal) updated in the candidate info portal.

Congrats! Did your DS have LOA or just 3Q and principal? Our DS's portal changed yesterday to show nom, he has principal, but does not show that. Thanks

He just had the Principal nom and we could only assume he was 3Q'd as admissions did not disclose that.
