Principal Nomination

I just recently learned I have a principal nom from my congresswoman. Can someone explain to me what exactly that means? I know it's really good to get one and I have a better chance of getting in but I don't understand how it's different from a regular nomination.

I'm pretty sure it means your guaranteed an appointment as long as you are found to be 3Q'd.

Exactly. I means your MOC has told USNA that you are his/her first choice and that they must, if you are triple Q'ed, offer you an appointment.
