DS just spoke to MOC's office and was told that he is the principal nominee. Does this mean he will be receiving a BFE? I'm being cautiously optimistic.

Unless I was giving wrong information, I was told on a different thread they they are, indeed, required to give an appointment to a principal nominee. Congrats!

IF he is also 3Q, then a principal nom = offer of appointment.

Assuming he is medically qualilfied and passed his CFA, yes.

It may take some time, however, as USNA must wait until the MOC's slate is submitted to them. MOCs have until Jan. 31 (or, if they are leaving office, Inauguration day) to send them in. The fact they called your DS doesn't mean they've actually sent the data to USNA or even will do it any time soon. Some do, some don't.

So, the BFE will be coming but may not arrive immediately.

He is medically qualified and passed his CFA, and I have no reason to believe he would not be scholastically qualified. DS was told that the nom was submitted today. We are trying to be "cool" until BFE is in hand, but we are excited! This has been his dream for a long time!

Congratulations! You should be very proud. But, considering that you have chosen a handle of "futuremarinemom" you will have to be aware of your next moment of anxiety - service assignment. There are no guarantees that what you want is what you'll get. The best solution to that "problem" is to work hard during your time at the academy.

One of those might well be anxiously trying to determine if you'll need to change your moniker when he determines he wants to be a USN submariner or Navy SEAL.

Hold on. You're in for a roller-coaster ride.

If you don't mind me asking, what did his scholastic record look like?

As time2 stated, one must be 3Q'd!
It doesn't seem from this thread that the scholastic qualification is known. Before getting too joyous, it is possible for a nominee to be designated a principal and not be qualified scholastically, medically, and/or physically (even though the last two don't apply in this case). I would like to think that a MOC decision to designate a principal would mean he/she is probably scholastically and physically qualified (at a minimum), but it isn't necessarily a given.
The best that can be done is to wait for notification. Hopefully your son ends up with a BFE.

Jct95, his academics are pretty typical for an appointee. His extracurriculars and leadership are outstanding and unusual. I'd rather not get more descriptive than that on a public forum.

Usnabgo08, we understand. That's why we aren't telling anyone about it just yet. Personally, I'm ready to explode with the news! But I must patiently wait for official notification.
