Prior Education and ROTC (Green to Gold)

Hello All,

I am trying to determine if I am eligible to participate in the Army Green to Gold program. I earned a bachelors and masters degree before I enlisted. I am now two years in though, and while I initially thought I'd only stay in for my initial term I am now hoping to make a career out of the Army.

I haven't ruled OCS out, but I would really like to go back to school as well (I am applying for MPP degrees). Is it possible for me to do ROTC? My Age/TIS/PT/GPA line up well enough but I've heard conflicting things about whether they will let you go back for a second masters, I know they won't let you for TA. (My education was not paid for by TA or any other Army benefits if that makes a difference).

While I would naturally prefer to do the program with a Scholarship or the ADO, I would be willing to do Non-Scholarship as well if the regulations differ.

Many Thanks,

Lots of factors with green to gold and ADO is very very competitive.

A ROO or G2G liaison on your post will best answer questions. Make sure your ERB and letters of recommendation are squared away because there were something like 8000 applicants for 200 slots last time I checked. Since my school is right next to a major post I see a lot if G2G packets and most are E-5/6s that are stacked when it comes to accolades. Although Your previous education does look good though which could make up for TIS

I've seen a few masters guys go thorough but the Army might be hesitant to pay for a second masters IMO but I am not an authority on that matter. You are right about TA though I tried to take pre req classes bunt why wouldn't let me because the classes weren't towards a masters.

I would lean towards OCS but don't rule out ROTC until you have seen a ROO or G2G rep.

^Thank you for the Reply

The difficulty is that I have a G2G Rep telling me my masters degree disqualifies me, and an ROTC BN Commander telling me that it does not. At this point I am just trying to get a straight answer on whether or not I can apply to G2G (whether that be as ADO or Non-Scholarship).

I did the non-scholarship option. You can read the requirements in AR 635-200, chapter 16-2. AR 145-1 is the regulation that covers ROTC enrollment eligibility. I don't see anything in either of those prohibiting a second Masters, but I'm not looking very hard. Ask the G2G liason to cite you a reference to make sure he's giving you an accurate answer. I don't know about the ADO or scholarship options as I never really looked into them.

If you decide to go the non-scholarship option it is all done with the ROTC battalion and your unit. You don't deal with the national Cadet Command selection process and it isn't competitive. You just need the PMS approval and the approval of your chain of command. That said, I've burned through half my GI bill to get where I am. So it has its ups and downs. The one catch is that nowhere explains how to put together the application (what documents are required, what the 4187 has to contain, etc). If you decide to go that route let me know and I can give you a sample packet.

I apologize for the grammar errors in my previous post as I am quickly typing on my mobile device.

I personally know the G2G liaison for the major post right next to me and can give you his number if you want to ask specific questions. Just PM me. Another G2G opinion from an expert is probably better than this board as G2G isn't a common topic on this board

G2G non-scholarship

I am currently working on my g2g non-scholarship packet. I have already been accepted to my school of choice and received an acceptance letter from the PMS ROTC battalion. My question is what documents do i need to complete my packet and where do i send my packet once it is completed?

@mbitr

Could you please tell me which documents are required specifically for the G2G non-scholarship option only? (NOT ADO or Scholarship) I want to be completed with my packet in early February 2014. Thank you

@Sheaks_11 send me your email in a PM and I'll email you my complete packet. I did GTG Non-scholarship out of Fort Lewis and just branched AD Infantry

There's a 4187 that goes in the packet as well. Once the packet is signed it goes up to your post's transition center. They need your ERB, the 4187, the school acceptance letter, the PMS acceptance letter, and a copy of your passing APFT card to validate that you qualify. The school acceptance letter also MUST state the start day, month, and year of your classes. I believe it also must state that you have been accepted as an academic Junior and can complete your degree in 2 years. Shoot me your e-mail in PM and I'll send you a copy of my 4187 to base yours off of.

Aside from the required stuff I threw in a copy of my college transcripts, my record of counseling, awards, letters of recommendation from officers I'd worked with, and so forth. My record of counseling was awesome, but my CSM still went over it closely and found things to ***** about. The strongest part of my packet and what probably sealed the deal was having good, strong recommendations from multiple officers in the brigade.

e: I also had my approved DODMERB physical in there. I might be forgetting something else, it's been a few years since I've had to worry about it. The DODMERB and steering the packet through my chain of command were my biggest headaches.

G2G Non Scholarship help

I just made an account on this forum so it's not letting me send messages to anyone.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to putting in a packet for the G2G Non Scholarship route? I currently have just a little over a year but I read that there is a waiver for time in service. I got a 90 on my ASVAB and a 126 on my GT score. I've been accepted to the college I want to go to as an Academic Junior (University of Tampa... my hometown) and have been accepted by the PMS there. I read that my Commander has to release me so I can ETS. Is this something that he probably will not do because of my time in or will he most likely sign off on it because I'm not trying to go the scholarship or ADO route so it will be on my own dime? I'm a little nervous to approach someone about this because I don't want it to look like I just got here and am trying to go already. I used to go to University of Alabama but school was getting a little expensive for me and I wasn't getting any financial aid. When I enlisted, this is what my recruiter told me to do and said it would be easy and that since I met the requirements, all I had to do was put in a packet. So here I am now trying to put in a packet and realizing it's not that easy.

I meet every requirement other than the Time in Service and I also got a speeding ticket over 250 dollars so I need a waiver for that as well.

Other than getting an acceptance letter from the ROTC detachment at University of Tampa and getting accepted into the school, I haven't done anything.

Any help would be appreciated. You can also email me at brennon.daugherty@live.com

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone had an example of the G2G Non-Scholarship 4187. Thank you
