i'm looking to see what all you current PRIOR Enlisted Prep school appointee's and ones currently in prep school/academy had as your HS GPA, SAT and ACT scores? I've looked all over this thread but i couldn't get an enough numbers.

Trying to go through the LEAD program and have gathered most of the stuff i need to start, just need to see if i will be competitive.

    HS GPA unweighted-2.9
SAT 560Reading 540Math (retook today since HS, hope to score higher but its been awhile. lol)
ACT (Scheduling to take at next available date)

Football 2 years HS, Wresting 2 years, Basketball (intramural 3years) Track 2 years
Intramural Flag Football/Basketball Team Kunsan AB Korea
Intramural Flag Football/Basketball Team Yokota AB Korea
Other than that tons of Volunteer work and will be going up for BTZ in Oct.

I can only compare it to mine, but here it goes bit-by-bit:

GPA - mine was a 3.35, but I don't know your class profile. but GPA for GPA it looks avg. and what I mean by that is it wont hurt, but it won't help.

SAT- is tad weaker then mine, this is where I didn't capitalize. Get a cheap help book like on amazon for $15-20 and study! Use the education office free testing all the way till the deadline. They use superscoring so your best results will always be used - no matter what test number it was. The ACT made more sense to me due to my thought process, but take both every chance you can get, its free. Use it.

Sports - participation looks solid, but were you team captain in any? Put them together? Do anything to show leadership in some form or fashion? This is what they look for.

Volunteer - I'm not sure what a ton is, but this is how I got in (if I had to give a reason). I was president of the Enlisted Advisory Council for a year and responsible for moral and activity base for all E-1 through E-5 (~550) and answered directly to the Command Chief about matters it concerned as an E-3. Remember we just don't help eachother out (mil to mil) but also are communities. I ran an Autism Run, gathered $1.6k to help local families with autism (that help me when a lot of awards too).

Awards (help with BTZ too) - Best advice: bust your a**. By the time BTZ rolled around I had two flight awards, two sq awards (one yearly), two group awards (one yearly), and a center award and a junior enlisted DOD-level award. The reason I'm listing this out is not to brag, but to show you what it takes to be the #1 selected out of the base for BTZ. If you can't win a sq award, how do you expect to win something thats given to 15% of E-3's across the Air Force?

CC endorsement - If yours is like mine, you will have to draft it yourself. Considering the final turn in time is a while from now hold off on this. That way it will reflect your most current numbers, awards, etc.

Misc - Get some awards on the board and take leadership roles as much as you can. EPR wise: "Its better to lead three small events, then participate in 10 large ones."

Any other questions, feel free to shoot me a pm.

Or, "It's better to lead three BIG events than participate in 10 large ones." :shake: :yllol:

Tman is correct. Quality vs. quantity is key in regards to your application.

Wow thanks Tman for all the good info! That was very helpful.

I was worried about the GPA part so if anyone else has gotten accepted with that or lower please let me know lol

-As far as the SAT/ACT i will be studying for them when i take them. those scores i posted where from HS

-Sports, no i was not Captain though i started in most of them. and along with the intramural in each base. I was a starter in the Squadron teams. i believe i will max out most of the req's for the CFA. i'm a big advocate in fitness lol

-Volunteer.. I didnt feel like typing it all out lol but I'm on the right path on that one, i POC'd events to raise money in Korea and hope to do more here in Japan. It's kinda hard to get things rolling while jumping base to base overseas. Im going to be joing the base Honor Guard next week so hope that helps.

-CC Endorsement, thanks for that tip. i was about to contact him but it would make more sense to do so when i had the scores and numbers to back it up.

I do have a few more questions for you and who ever is reading this.

-In regards to the LOR's how many did you guys submit and from whom?
-For the Pre-canidate Questionnaire, am i able to put my current SAT scores in then update them when i get new ones? i don't want to DQ myself from being a candidate if they aren't high enough.

    thanks guys for the help!

Just a quick GPA note, a lot of that has to do with how competitive your HS was, but there was a kid in my basic flight (a prior enlisted preppie) who had a 2.9 in HS, so it has happened.

I dont know who it was, but according to the person who helped out with the LEAD packages at base, a person with a 2.3 got in. Don't know them personally so take it for what you want out of it. To your questions, simple answers first.

Questionare - Yes you can, just constantly send your new scores to the USAFA and they will fix it. (to my understanding, you can also ask your ALO how that works, but I'm sure it will be the same)

LORs - Other than the Sq CC's I had my direct supervisor, a prior academy grad (<- probably unofficial brownie points), and my physics teacher from high school. It may be hard to get a third one, but you can always look for someone in your chain, shirt, or anyone else who you know will put a good word in for you.

*important note* - Just thought about this while i looked at the LORs. Granted you DO NOT NEED a representative's (congress or house of rep.) for your nomination, I HIGHLY suggest trying to get one. I got one for my package and it probably helped out a lot. Most of their requirements are very close, if not the same so that is somewhat helpful. Its a noticeable size of extra work, but it WILL make your package stronger. So if you and another airman are tied, but you have the nomination... well guess who has a better chance?

I didn't have any Letters of Recommendation besides my Commander who is an ex Assistant Professor for the Comp Sci department at the Academy. My other stuff was just really good. 3.84 GPA, 26 ACT, Sports in High School, National Honor Society, and a bunch of stuff, my resume is somewhere here on the forums.

That sounds like they'll be sending you the "Instructions to Candidates" packet. Normally, when your status on the admissions portal becomes "candidate", the USAFA will open up the "Instructions to Candidates" in addition to various online forms for you to complete (i.e. USAFA Forms 145, 146, 147, 148, etc).

I actually never got that. I just stared online all day waiting for mine. Sorry I know that doesn't help probably.
