I am just now finishing up a 5 year enlistment. I'm starting in the fall at Tech and doing NROTC. Does anyone know how many prior enlisted guys are there? I've heard after the first year we get bumped up above all the incoming freshman. I dont really know what to expect, most of the information out there is for incoming freshman, not veterans. I will be a second semester sophmore when I start so by the end of the year I will already be a junior. Are there any other people here who are prior enlisted that went back to school through ROTC? Whats kind of experience was it?

I can't answer your question (sorry) but I do want to congratulate you on entering NROTC after 5 years of enlistment  Awesome accomplishment. My guess is you'll be in the minority with respect to that but my guess is also that you will not really be treated any different than anyone else new to the unit in the beginning. My daughter's unit has a prior enlisted person joining her unit this coming fall so I'm sure I'll be hearing bits and pieces this year. Her unit however is much, much smaller than VA Tech.

Good Luck - I'm sure you're in for a great 4 years :thumb:

I just finished my freshman year at VT and for the first semester you will have to be a freshman. You'll go through New Cadet Week/Red Phase and half of white phase as a freshman then second semester you'll be able to early turn and become an upperclassmen. From then on you can keep early turning until your class standing in the corps is the same as your academic standing. One year ago we had an AF SSgt that did the fall semester as a freshman, was an upperclassman second semester, and then was a senior this past fall semester. The corps will allow you to catch up with your academic standing as long as you complete the freshman requirements.
